Here is a movie that I saw recently at the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival, but you certainly don't have be Jewish to have an interest in this bit of aviation history. While it will be in limited theatrical release, the documentary nature means it will likely appear in small "art theaters", though it may eventually appear on public television and, later, on DVD:

Above and Beyond is the story of the American volunteer pilots who flew combat missions on behalf of Israel during the war of independence in 1948-49. Produced by Nancy Spielberg (Steven’s sister), it features special effects from Industrial Light & Magic, which includes turning the “German” Merlin-powered Messerschmitts from the movie Battle of Britain into Israeli ones! (After all, none of the Czech Jumo-powered aircraft that the Israelis actually flew have been flyable for many years.) Many of the pilots were interviewed for the film, and it’s a good thing it was made when it was, because at least two of them have since passed away. Above and Beyond: The Movie
