While I am out of the car repair business, I still take care of two dinos (Dini?) that belong to my closest friend in upstate NY. I also maintain my 330 GTC.

Anyway, of my friend's two Dinos, one of them might be one of the best original examples in the US.

Would it be OK to post some pictures of it?

My friend has owned this car for 30 years – he bought it from the original owner in new condition.
Since the original paint was marginal, he had it resprayed with the proper/identical color as from the factory. In a concours judging, the paint would doubtlessly receive a 10/10.
The rest of the car, right down to the emission controls, exhaust and radio, is original.
Nothing has been replaced or changed in the driver’s compartment.
We replaced the wheels with those from a 308 and I custom fitted the “Dino” plastic centers. He still has the original wheels and tires.
The engine had only been touched twice: Once to tighten the cam chains and the other to check the valve clearance at 20,000 miles. While I had the cam covers off, I refinished them in red wrinkle paint. The plugs and belts were changed once. As far as I know, it has the original brake pads.
The original jack was removed from the pouch and used for the first time Saturday!

His other Dino has been completely restored and I fitted it with the Plexiglas headlight covers and a new interior.

    Nice car but....

    Not exactly original...

Its like saying I have Washington's hatchet that he used to cut down the cherry tree... oh the handle has been replaced twice. the head once but its the original! Just joking, I don't get to use that joke often!

I it looks like a very nice Dino!

My Dino is original too, except for new paint, new interior, new exhaust, engine rebuild.... you get the idea!

    I love the color!

Actually, I don't get the idea - as I said, only the paint is redone.

The entire driveline, suspension, interior, carpeting, is AS IT WAS DELIVERED.
The things that were replaced were normal wearing items - like spark plugs.

With your hatchet analogy, you imply that I'm misrepresenting information about the car - totally wrong. There is a world of difference between a high quality repaint and all you've described as being done to your car.

Part of the reason the car is so near perfect is that it was only serviced when service was needed. The carburators have NEVER even been adjusted. Why? Because they don't need adjusting. The distributor cap has never been off. The car has always started and ran as it did when he purchased it - why mess with perfection?

He never let any ham-handed mechanic touch it - and there were plenty of them around.

Regarding the wheels and cam boxes: Bolting on the original wheels and tires and removing the red paint puts this car as close to new as possible.

How many cars are out there that can make similar claim?

As one who has seen and driven the car, it's much more than "a very nice Dino"

In this world of over-restored cars, it is nice to see a car with patina.

You friend has a nice Dino, not restored, slightly modified.

But if you say it is one of the most original cars you certainly open up the door to the obvious comments regarding paint, wheels, cam covers etc...

It is a nice Dino, nicer than alot out there, probably nicer than most without a doubt.

I am sorry if can not see the humor, but I don't take cars (or myself) that seriously.

    Bob.

    Do you hace any more?

What's so great about cars like this is they serve as rolling examples of what the car was like when it came from the factory. It's not easy to detail the car correctly just from pictures in a brochure or old book.

I am particularly interested in the engine compartment and the tags and labels in the items in the bay, if you have any additional pics.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Very nice Dino. Is it metalic blue with clear coat or just a beautiful plain dark blue? Thanks for showing it to us. What tires are on those 308 wheels?
