We have just taken delivery of a new batch of 348/355 key blanks from Fchat legend, Gothspeed! The new key blanks have a black anodized finish, and match the original Ferrari 355 key blank shape perfectly.

I'm thinking the little Cavallino's used on the 1/8 Pocher models would be really nice if carefully mounted onto this key face, giving an appearance very similar to the original 170010 keys from Ferrari. We don't have those wee little horses here at Ricambi, but another Fchatter does list them on eBay ;)

FYI to all: I just spent $325.00 to get a factory key cut.

I may need to pick this up. I bought the STEEL blank from you a few months back and every locksmith/key cutter I have taken it to has said they can not cut a steel key. It requires special equipment that even locksmiths do not have.

That's a bit surprising. I've got a locksmith just up the road from the office that does them with no problems. It's a "Lock and Key" type place that does commercial safes and such.

It has been frustrating for sure. I have only taken it to lock and key places as well. No luck so far.

If you have a second spare key, I'd be happy to have a fresh one cut for you here and mail it back.

Are you guys serious? It cost $4 to have my 355 key blanks cut at a lock smith.
If your talking about buying the fancy Ferrari keys then I understand paying a bit more.

Yes Eric, I'm serious. As I said, mine was a factory key. Along with that, I ordered a set of 3 programmed FOB's and my PIN. These are the only things I did not get with my car and I wanted it to be complete. What I saved on transportation costs I spent to get this stuff. I don't know how long it will take since I just placed the order this week.

    Not really.
I remember paying $100 for my used black fob, having to ship it for cloning and then paying shipping both ways is $100. So, a used cloned fob was $200. Three new fobs that work seamlessly for $600 is totally fair. really.

I agree the Fobs were a deal but the key was a bit painful. $325 for a full set and I would have felt better but in the end I needed it all and it is what it is

you are going to get the runaround on cutting steel keys until you find an old timer who doesn't give a crap. I got all mine done in Newport Beach at an old timer's key shop. The new guys don't want to dull their cutters on the harder material even though they will cut. Keep trying, you will find someone. I suggest you look for someone who's been in the lock smith business for years.

I've never heard of a key that was not steel. But what do I know :)

and my cloned fob is not an independent fob. It immediately goes out of synch the minute I start using the other one. The way to get it back into synch is to push the button a few hundred times until it randomly synchs up.

One of these days I am going to bite the bullet and pay for a PIN and 3 new fobs. Or just bypass the system altogether.

all duplicate keys are brass blades.
The Ferrari original keys are all steel and only one shop in Redwood city would cut that, for $10.

I forgot his name, but a guy here clones fob IIRC for $250 each. So, it was a much better deal to get them from the factory and I was less than thrilled for someone else to have a copy of my program (no offense to him)

    I appreciate the offer, but I don't have a second key :O(

When I have some spare time to devote to it I will just call around every locksmith I can find in Seattle and see where I get.

Dave, are you saying you paid Ferrari to look up the 4 digit PIN assigned to your ECU from the factory to unlock it for new fob set programming?

I recall being told at Ferrari of Seattle that they had no way of looking that up, but maybe my memory isn't correct.

Being one of the only people to have visited the lair of Gothspeed and returned alive, I can attest that he uses only the finest materials and the quality of engineering and workmanship is exemplary.

On another note, off-topic, I've never understood the need for a remote, and never been able to verify the value of an alarm. I'm willing to spend very little time, effort, or money to defend myself from thieves.

Back to the topic at hand - the key looks great, will you be mounting them with the prancing horse?
