My Christmas present.[ATTACH]
1946 Globe Swift, serial number 11. Continental O-300. Just finished a complete restoration with many upgrades. Bob Z.
Nice looking ride. Swifts are pretty sweet airplanes when done right. The 145 hp motor is a big deal. While the 125 works it's amazing how much a bit more power helps. What mods???? Roy LoPresti had developed his LoPresti Furywhich was a pretty amazing plane. The original swift could use some more rudder, and that's also a very common mod. The other thing is that the Swift really responds to some basic cleanup work. With the relatively small engine, if you cut the drag even a small amount it will pay big dividends. Smaller cooling air inlets and mods to clean up the airplane are big payoffs.
Very cool, very pretty. That and the Navion are my favorite post-war civilian low wing designs. Regards, Art S.
Very cool! My dad was a USAF pilot and we had a Cabin Waco when I was growing up. Love the aircraft of that era.
My faculty advisor in the A.E. department at the University of Florida in the early '70s had worked at Globe back in the days when they were building Swifts. He always thought that it was an underrated airplane.
125 HP, 145 HP, and 150 HP are really good in that airplane BUT try to fly one with two people and a C-85...on a 95 deg day.
