Ha!! The guy has a "No Reserve" auction on a 1985 TR. It has 12K miles. Yet he apparently HAS a reserve since the $23,000 it is at right now is "Not Meeting Reserve". Anyway, the kicker is at the bottom where he states that asking price is $9000. Nice huh??

And he has ZERO feedback to his Ebay name. Always a nice touch.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my guess is that he doesn't ask more than $9000 because it has something to do with ebay/or fraud or the bank not checking it if it under $9000.

This is one of several auctions I've seen where they try and sell cars for only $9000.00, an 04 range rover for 9k, a BMW for 9k.....

I figured he did it at $9000 and would "take" $9k since it had something to do with a different level of theft in the U.S. if the amount was over $10K or something. That's what i was figuring.

Good call, Maybe no suspicious tagging to anything under 9k. Or thats the limit you can wire transfer money without documents and proofing to lets say an.... offshore banking account, or out of country bank.

    ?????

And, not to pick apart his whole auction. But look at how he spells things, like "detailes"

I just figured it out, he did a quick registration. Got a VIN maybe of a TR in existance, added at the bottom of the auction to email him if any questions. He will then try and work out a deal outside of the auction is my guess. Therefore just making ebay an interface to connect with buyers that are possible victims of a scam.

"Please contact me before bidding not to bid first as I have the right to cancel all your bids"

He wants anyone interested to email him first, then persuade them outside the auction. Where ebay can't control....

    ........thank you, thank you

Well if the 9k price was so that he wouldn't get noticed, it didn't work. He's got a whole thread on F-chat now!

    Here's the reply:

    Hello,

My name is Ana Lecko. I'm a US citizen but currently I work at the UK office of my company. This has no negative effect on you because shipment is included in the buy it now price and will cost you nothing more. The person that wanted to buy my car changed his mind that's why the car it's not available on the website any more.
I must tell you that i `m selling this beautiful Ferrari not because I want it, but because I have to. When I moved in Europe a month ago I didn't know about the taxes for register a US car. The car was bought from US, so it is US standards, so stay cool it´s perfect compatible to your standards and you will don´t have to pay more duty taxes on it. And this is an impediment for me to sell it here because, first, we have a different standards and second will be very expensive for me to register it here. I have to pay a very expensive duty taxes. The price for this car is US$ 9,000. The car it is still register in States.

So I have for sale a remarkable Ferrari. It is as new and very well maintained.
Here you have the description of my car:
    1985 FERRARI TESTAROSSA .........$9,000
    VIN # ZFFSA17A3F0057619
    Miles: 15100
    Transmission: Manual
    Engine: 12 - Cyl.
    Title: Clear

It will be shipped from London,UK and I will pay the shipping and insurance charges. I will do the arrangements for shipping from here.

The original receipt and all remained warranty information packet with enrollment number is included for you. If necessary ever I will assist you in getting warranty help; most people just dump it on you with a useless warranty.

I ask a down payment of $2500. The payment will be done via secure pay which means that the third party will keep the money until you receive and inspect the car. I have a Vehicle Purchase Protection Account with Ebay Motors which protects buyer against fraud up to $20.000 when using it to buy a car or any other vehicle. In order to start this transaction I need your full name and shipping address to contact Ebay Motors with this details. If you did not hear about deals through Ebay Motors program please check their website at this link:
    http://pages.motors.ebay.com/help/buy/contextual/buy-with-confidence.html
Also, you have nothing to worry about this deal because will be done it in a secure way. This program is provided for free on all eligible passenger vehicle transactions completed on the eBay Motors site. There's no sign-up, opt-in, or registration necessary. Your passenger vehicle purchase is protected for up to $20,000 or the vehicle purchase price, whichever is lower.
I will wait for your email to let me know if you are interested in knowing more details about the purchase.

    Regards,

    Ana

    Invalid Item....

But since you have made email contact, tell him you must see the car before taking delivery. No photos unless he can provide detailed shots of the engine, hoses, wiring and the underside of the brake pedal. Tell him you can meet him in the UK... we'll get someone from the UK section to meet if it actually gets that far. Which it probably won't because next thing you know this guy is on a business trip to Asia and the car is actually in container in Spain.

He's probly asking 9g to give him a buffer of 1g before he hits the 10g mark. All transactions in the U.S. of $10,000+ MUST be reported to the IRS. My guess is he doesn't want it being reported for whatever reason.

I'm the real owner of the 85TR with the vin # listed in the scam. I've owned the car for some time and have NO INTENTIONS of selling. Evidently the crook who's trying this scam picked out the car and matching VIN from the national Ferrari club registery I belong. This concerns me for the people this person has or is scamming and for myself who owns the car and does not want to be associated with this kind of thing. I will try to find out more. Signing off as a recently subsribed F-Chatter

It really pisses me off that the FBI or government agencies wont get involved in this stuff...Because it is running rampade on Ebay and there ARE people that are getting taken...

I almost got taken on this scam, back when it was a new scam...on a refrigerator...Guy even set up a fake telephone number in NYC, which where he claimed to live. He even set up a fake escrow company online. The whole thing looked legit...what tipped me off was the fact that he would ONLY use this one escrow company....

so i checked it out....website was built strong but the give away was this..
i went on internic.com and looked up the registry date and the website (this company that had been in biz since 83) was only 5 days old...ding ding ding...

So i let this think i was going to buy it, and then contacted the FBI. I had the guys real number because I called it and someone answered.....and said 'no andre doesnt live here anymore, this is his roomate'

but the FBI had no interest....I could have handed them this crook on a platter...and they wouldnt do it...and now this crap is running rampant and NOTHING is being done...

How many times, when you list an ebay item, do you get like 50 emails...all with bad grammer that start with 'dear good seller'. It boils my blood to know that those that are not as internet savvy fall prey to this cons...

...Once a week someone is posting on Fchat a scam on Ebay with an Fcar....

Something needs to be done....The media needs to get on this and get the proper info out to all people so that people are at least informed...

It's sad that eBay doesn't address this issue for all the public to know. Once you're scammed you're pretty much on your own.

I bid on it knowing it was a fake, just to educate me on what they would do, sure enough, the "ana" person emailed me.
problem 1= ebay still makes their listing fee, they love it..they turn their backs on it all the time.
problem 2= how do you track down and convict these turds in khazikstan ,or wherever they live? the only thing you can do is shut them down.

I was informed several months ago by someone who was interested in the same ad listed on Ebay. He found out my home # and left me a message for me to call him. I returned the call...He informed me where to find the ad. (Sure enough my car was being listed for sale w/ pictures, mileage and all. The car looked like mine even w/ the red/tan, red carpet, correct mileage etc..) After a brief discussion with the interested person, it was detemined that their was a crook involved with trying to sell my car to make a quick buck from a unsuspecting buyer.. It was the next day after I saw the ad myself that Ebay had deleted the ad as in this latest scam. This wont be the last time we'll see this, I have seen similar $9,000. bargains with different makes of vehicles listed on Ebay. What can or should be done?
