My wife emailed this link to me from YouTube and its in regards to this very cool 3D printer and after seeing this video there are many usage of this new technology such as manufacturing resin models or making castings for die cast cars... Now I'm not sure the cost of this printer but I'm sure it's not cheap... But the video is very cool and impressive to watch!

    Wow !

That is very impressive..This machine/machines would make things much easier and achievable in new patents and prototypes.

This technology has actually been around for a fairly long time and many modelers and model companies are using this method along with Stereo lithography, CAD designing and various other forms of computer tech. Its a very useful tool. Model Factory Hiro has been doing this for years to make there patterns.

My company has one of these machines. It is pretty remarkable what you can do with it. For one thing, you can make something hallow in one piece.

We've got 7-8 machines that do this type of stuff, all different sizes, materials, capabilities/technologies, etc. We have a Z-corp too, I believe. As a mech. engineer/designer, its amazing to be able to model something up one day and have it sitting on my desk the next!

That depends largely on the machine and the material. There are some that just use a starch-like powder and the final product isn't very robust at all. Others use PCV or ABS and you can get some great parts from them if they are oriented correctly in the build (depends on the part geometry and use). Also Nylons, glass-filled nylons, high temp polymers all the way up to 99.99% dense metals such as aluminum, titanium, steel, etc.

As durable as you want it to be. I think they just change the resin used or the amount to change strength and durability.

There's a guy over on automotiveforums.com model build section who has been making a large scale McLaren F1 using this process. Pretty darn cool.

It truly is a great technology that is only limited by the workspace of the tool path. I have been developing some models as time away from work allows. One of the great thing about it is the ability to manipulate scale. The scanner is not perfect and requires some input and a few tricks.

I just found out my uncle has one of these machines. He is a jeweler and makes trophies for many of the high profile golf tournaments. My cousin is the tech that runs the machine. Haven't seen it yet, but I might have him make me some parts for a prototype tool my partner and I are working on. If we have it done Ill drive up and check it out.

As he said, "If you lose your tool in space you can print out another one."

That's where MADE IN SPACE comes in...
