F1 isn't for everybody. Just like opera or the fine arts.

I think golf, golf and golf are the 3 most boring things on TV; I'm told it's really popular with the dead.

The majority of sports fans on this planet consider soccer the #1 sport. I think they got it right.

If we're looking for boring sports, I'd start with baseball.

Like soccer, I do find it exciting and engaging....then again I like to watch swimming.

Some of the most boring unless actually there, is baskeball, until the final 3 mins. which actually takes 1 hour to dispense [they took all game to understand the other team, please. Should ban timeouts in the final 20 mins....that and freakin' 'sideline reviews']

BUT to the OP not to hijack this thread: formula1.com, then Tivo Speed... I do like Speed's announcers....only better commentators would be swapping in Top Gear's people :D, no, truly...that would be interesting.

Sticking to your "majority of sports fans on this planet" angle, soccer is usually followed closely by cricket, which proves that when a majority of people like a sport, it can be a very boring sport that a lot of people like, baseball included.

I feel lucky now looking back on my F1 experiences starting in the late 70's, from getting to meet Gilles Villenueve in the garage area after he put his Ferrari on the front row his first race at Long Beach on up to watching Ferrari slowly turn into the unbeatable giant during the Schumacher years, and so many other things in between, I feel sorry for folks who are just finding the sport today because it has lost so much of it's luster. When those hideous looking cars race on Sunday I feel sad really.

To Travanx I would say, watch European feeds if possible, British announce team is far and away superior to Speed, I'd rather watch a feed that is in a language I cant understand than watch Speed, their that bad.

Hmm, interesting point. I realize cricket is big in India and some other former British nations, but does that really make it #2 on the planet? In which case I would have to agree with you. I'd rather watch paint dry than cricket/baseball.

I agree with you on the cherished memories. For me it was "meeting" Gilles Villeneuve in the pits in Hockenheim in 81. Amongst other memories. And yes the cars were more intersting with the variety of shapes and engines etc. That said, life moves on and today's F1 has its own merits. Like Jumbotron screens for the local audience or all the racing games to bring the tracks closer to the fans. Merchandising etc.
