Search Index: ( GT4 308 header nut stripped fix ) I'm in the process of replacing the 3rd gear syncro on my GT4, which I'm detailing in the 308/328/Mondial section While taking the rear header off, I ham-handed one of the soft copper flange nuts on the #2 cylinder. I tried in vain to get it off with various sockets and wrenches. In desperation, I finally resorted to a pair of needle-nose vice-grips, which only made the problem worse. After staring at the back of the car for a few moments, I decided that the only solution was to pull the head. In the process I ran to the toy-store (Sears) to get a new oil-filter wrench, as I was in the process of removing the carbs, and the filter is in the way of one of the nuts. That's when I found Bolt-Out. I never new such a tool existed. But boy am I glad I found it! I think it will be well worth the $29 bucks it cost me. Using this tool, I had the nut loose in about 15 seconds. It took 5 minutes to actually get it all the way off. But that's only because I dropped the little socket behind the diff housing and had to fish it out. For those of you who have never experienced such a problem, be thankful. For the rest of us, there's Bolt-Out! Here's what it looks like: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yep, a very handy tool. I gave my Father a set last year for his birthday. He's used it for taking a rounded lug nut off a 4-wheeler. The nut was so tightly bound to the stud that the stud itself broke. He said he would never have gotten it off without the Bolt-Out short of using a torch.
