I have BBLM AP racing light weight alloy calipers on my BB and they make a obnoxious noise when cold, sounds like metal on metal, I have taken the pads out and rounded the corners with sandpaper to get rid of the noise with no luck.

They stop making noise if I am really hard on them a few times but travel for several miles they cool off and the noise is back, the calipers are also drilled as well.

I checked with AP racing and the pads are the hardest compound available which is why they make so much noise unless used heavily meaning repeated stops to get them really hot, other than changing to a softer pad is their anything I can do?

GM &Ford used to include some high temp RTV to apply to the back of the pads to dampen squeaky brakes on their street cars. Would possibly reduce yours but I doubt the elimination of the noise.

Napa has some anti-squeel stuff you can spray on the back of the pads. That might be to problem (pad backing to piston noise) rather than pad to caliper noise. Costs about $5, worth a try.

Do you really need those hard pads on the street? I would think the solution is a less aggressive pad for the street and stick the hard ones in for the track. Chances are the hard pads aren't working to their full potential unless they are hot enough to not squeal anyway, and since you can't keep them up to optimum temperature on the street, they probably aren't the best choice for the application anyway.

    Thanks for the replies

The 2nd to the last PO put them on the car, I think he tracked it a bit.The last PO maybe put 50 miles on the car so I probably am the only one that has driven it much on the street and has dealt with it.

I agree about going to a softer pad but its a pain to remove them as you need to remove a lower line that connects the caliper halfs together then requires full bleeding, plus finding the pads as the calipers are a bit rare.

You should not have to split the lower line to change pads on any AP caliper. In fact pulling that line is a no-no from AP! There is a bridge piece across the back of the caliper that is either bolted or pinned to the caliper. Removing that should allow you to pull the pads without removing caliper. '

As for pads, you can call Hawk brakes or PFC brakes and they will have a set of pads for you. If not-send them a drawing of pad and they will make you a set. The cost is vey, very reasonable!

Get a set of street pads-not street/track pads--unless you plan on tracking the car. This should solve your problems. Also call AP Racing in the UK-they can offer good advice on options also.

Your problem is very easy to fix and should cost no more than a couple hundred bucks for new pads-at most.

The problem is not with the pads. The problem lies with the fasteners between the rotor and the hat. I had this same problem when I bought the Brembo "Indy Car" monster brakes for my NSX. Some kits shipped with the spring steel clips that go between the nuts and bolts that hold the rotor to the hat; some do not. My brakes squealed like crazy until I simply installed the spring loaded clips - zero squealing after that.
