Want to see the movie "Grand Prix" released on DVD? Then sign this petition! http://www.putgrandprixondvd.com/default.asp
Also signed! I only have the German translation on VHS and missed out on taping the original version a few times! I want it on DVD!! For me it's on the same level as Le Mans with Steve McQueen. Ciao, Peter
Actually I thought "Grand Prix" is a tad less bad than "Le Mans". I have yet to see a racing movie that doesn't suck. The last issue of "RACER" magazine had an interesting editorial just about that topic and they agreed: So far no really good racing movie has been made and until the studios/writers learn, that a racing movie is not primarily an action movie there will never be one. PS: I do believe it is possible to make a good one. I have read enough good books about racing that I can see being made into a movie (e.g. "Racers").
They will begin filming a reality show at MotorSport Ranch (http://www.motorsportranch.com/) in November. The first 12 episodes will feature members of the Ranch, insight into their personal life, then a quali race, followed by a full race. The winners of each week will meet in the final episode to determine the winner. REV will carry the series and it should be shown on Cablevision in Hi-Def, perhaps as early as January or Feb of next year. Can't say if it will be good or not, but it should be more entertaining than most things on TV. Sure beats the NASCAR line-up on SPEED.
Maybe 2 F-chat Robs. I will be a reluctant star. I really don't like the whole reality show genre and the pilot that was shot this past summer was a little cheesy but I met with a producer last night and think the series will be much better than the pilot. Now I just need to learn how to drive so I am not too embarrassed come race day. Rob Lay is also on the list of candidates, but as of last night he had not committed. If they put me in his heat they better give me a 1 lap head start.
Signed it! I got this on VHS a couple months ago. I think its on par with LeMans, which I also have, but thats on DVD.
I have signed the petition and am just as anxious to see it remastered (in 5.1 surround please!) as anybody. But as I got tired of waiting, after several months, I managed to get a copy of the Laserdisc which I have copied to DVD. Not perfect, but very very good. Looks great on a big TV, only let down is 2.0 channel sound. This really is the best racing/car film of all time for me. If anybody is equally desperate for this (god knows when the studio will release it officially), please PM me. I am happy to make copies as long as my costs are covered, but my time is limited - I will do my best though. If I get too many requests though which I will not have time to cover, please understand if I say no and dont get s----y. Thank you.
Yeah .. all the racer movies lack a decent plot but the good ones like GP and Le Mans make up for it with fine visuals of cars and sounds - I can never get over the noise the Ferrari makes in LM.
Although very cheesy, my favorite motorsport film is "The Racers", from 1954, staring Kirk Douglas. I would buy it if it ever came out on DVD
Thanks for the link i have signed up as well. I've heard a lot about Grand Prix and woul love to see it on DVD...
Signed as well. I've watched GP 2 or 3 times and loved it. Haven't seen LM yet but waiting for it on TCM. Allow me to recommend "A Man and a Woman" as another good film about a Le Mans racer and has some good Monte Carlo rally shots as well. It was recently shown on Speed and was also released in 1966, and has a wicked sound track (depending on your taste, of course) and also features Anouk Aimée (hot).
signed - I also forwarded the link to my buddy who designs/QCs ABS systems in Dearborn - he'll pass it to hundreds of auto industry guys . . . when I go to Best Buy or Blockbuster and see all the crap that DID make it onto DVD, it is absurd that this film is not on DVD
For any of you who also post on other-marque or F1-related forums, please make a similar appeal on those. There is strength in numbers! Let's try to get "Grand Prix" out on DVD in '06!
