Hey y'all. As somebody who almost became an Argentinian cabaliero (family almost immigrated to Buenos Aries) I always wondered what it is like to own an exotic in Argentina or Brazil? Would you get instantly carjacked or worse if you were to cruise down Copa in a 360 Spider? Are taxes prohibitive?

I don't know about Argentina, but here in Brasil taxes are BIG !!
For example: F430 Sipder cost 650.000 dollars !! Anual taxes for this car is around 50.000 dollars, and you will pay a LOT for insurence...
So exotic cars like F-cars here in Brasil are for millionars with more than 20 millions dollars...

About carjacked, you can't go anywere with an exotic, but if you take care you wont have problems, at least here in my city, that is the 3rd largest in Brasil.

Yeah, taxes in Argentina are near 100% + they have all sorts of retarded laws which they change at a whim. You can bring in a car from 1974 or earlier, but no newer cars unless they are brand new.

This law was created to help the car dealers keep their monopolies & basically skru the public

Ferraris are coming out again in Argentina but I personally wouldnt drive anything that attracted too much attention

Yes ! An Audi A4 1.8T, BMW 320 or C Class 180 cost about 50.000 to 60.000 dollars, they are imported, but you have the cars produced here from 10.000 to 35.000.

Well some cars are cheap like FIATs, some Fords, Chevys, etc that are built in S America & come under Mercosur which is similair to NAFTA

anything imported from europe, Asia or US is big $$$

BUT on the + side there are several companies that build very nice replicas in Argentina including the finest Bugatti 57 and MB 300SLR replicas in the world

I heard there are Cobra & GT40 replica too, think I may have to get 1 of those

The same car built in Mexico (BMW, VW, MB, others) is about 40% more expensive if bought there than if bought in the US. Imports are expensive too for the same reason. It's all taxes...

Same as in Argentina you can't import recent used cars, they have to be at least 30 years of and you pay 50% taxes

What many people do here in Argentina is they get diplomats working in embassies to import a car when the car arrives it is kept in a garage until after a couple of moths when you can transfer it to your name, that way you save some money. The cost of doing that is about 40.000 U$S.

    Some prices.
    F612 430.000 U$S
    Superamerica 445.000
    F575 380.000
    F430 300.000
    P Cayenne turbo S 200.000
    BMW M3 95.000
    BMW M5 150.000
    Dodge Ram Quad cab 39.500
    Ford Focus 20.000
you could get 5% off. No leasing.

Taxes and Insurance are insane. The only bright side is that there is availability, for example you can go to a BMW dealer and walk out owning a M5. To get a F-car you should wait for almost 7 to 8 months.

The roads here are in good shape. You can use exotic cars but there are very few public places such as restaurants you can go. People use them to go to meeting or just to go for a dive and back or to there week end houses.
