What would you more mature gentlemen say to a 19 or 20 year old (like me....lol) that is so obssessed with Ferrari, that he thinks about Ferrari constantly throughout the day? What could he possibly do to get his hands on the fantastic F-Car?

I know for myself that I imagine myself driving a 360 around town whenever I'm driving the car doing errands, etc. Is the the kind of passion that leads to authentic ownership??

^Well, other than that. That's pretty obvious.

Can someone possibly be so obssessed with the F-Car that they explode???

I think that's where Im headed. Whenever the dentist in our little town drives his, I find myself following him. Whenever he parks it at his building, I take 2-3 turns around the block just to get that "last" look at it.

Am I weird feeling this way?

It's good to be passionate, but you can't let it control your life. I had the passion at your age, but I didn't "think about Ferrari constantly throughout the day". Be patient: like me and the other owners here, your time will come, and the wait will be worth it.

I too feel ready to explode with passion (that sounds so wrong) i thing of F-cars constantly and i know if i ever do own one it will not be for a very long time, since im only 16. I'm trying to broaden my horizons though, as my mother tells me to do, but i dont think the 3 hours i've spent on fchat today are helping to do that anytime soon. Guess i'll just sign off and go read Forza.

Sorry, I find it rather difficult to get a female companion. (Never had a g/f in my life).

So getting a Ferrari is mandatory for me. I have to compensate for my loss of....

You're young enough to go back to college and study engineering or something to make a little money with. I mentioned engineering only because it gave me a good job. Also, engineering will help you to understand your Ferrari. Ferrari's do not make a good car for primary transportation. So get a **** box to drive, keep what you got if it's paid for, and save your money for a Ferrari. 308's can be bought for $20,000 but you have to be ready to buy when opportunity waves as it passes you by. In the meantime, learn everything you can about all models of Ferraris. For example, what makes a good one, what goes wrong with them, how to fix them, and what is a good buy and not a good buy. You have to consider what it cost you to get a cheap car back on the road, and consider it part of the price of the car. i.e. you b uy a car for $20,000 and have to put $15,000 in it, then you have $35,000 in it. If it's a 308, then you have not made a good deal.

"You need to find yourself a girl, mate." (That's Captain Jack Sparrow.) ;)

I'd also note that you don't want the women that chase after your car.

That's the kind of passion that leads to injuries, insurance rate hikes, and license suspensions.

And we've all been there. ;) I'm sometimes amazed that I survived my youth. When the original Star Wars film came out, I'd drive the Fiat home from the theatre like it was a tie-fighter. Good thing it was late and the roads were mostly empty.

I would say that if your passion is focused on the name alone, that you're missing a lot. There are quite a number of fine automobiles, and stovepiping on Ferraris alone means that you're looking at a name, rather than what that name represents.

I started out with a passion for American Muscle (it was that era). (That at least taught me to be aware of my (large) corners.) Then I discovered turns. That led to a lot of car shopping. I passed on a Sunbeam Alpine (perhaps foolishly), and a number of cars I couldn't fit into. I passed through a Fiat, and a number of Alfas, and a look at Ferraris -- but no purchase at that first look. (Actually, I bought a new Celica GT-Four (the Carlos Sainz WRC rallye car) instead of a 308i 2v.) That experience gave me, I think, a better appreciation for the "lowly" 328 when I finally got one.

So that would be the other thing I'd say: Don't focus on new ones exclusively. Ferrari made some nice machines over the years, and some of them are obtainable without having to put the quest for the almighty dollar ahead of more substantial values in your life.

Don't get into the trap of thinking that ownership of a new Ferrari will cause the great unwashed masses to bow down before you, will cause women to throw themselves at you, or will cause traffic lights to change green at your approach. (Look at the owners who "don't get no respect" here. ;) )

Many cultures have spoken of the philosopher's stone, or the holy grail, or some other unobtainable talisman that will put your life right. Nobody has ever really found one.

Or, in the words of William Shatner: "Get a Life!". ;)

It's one thing to admire the engineering, balance, and aesthetic mix of a Ferrari (harder on the new ones, some would say). But there are other driver's cars -- some even wrapped in Farina or Bertone coachworks

But to fixate on one name means you have to ask yourself what it is you're really looking at or for.

Well, one way is to work an insurance scam, collect a bunch of money, and then pour it into a Ferrari. (You know, fall infront of a parked Ferrari, claim he hit you, sue the crap out of him, settle for the car.)

Another is to run a real estate scam. Sell ocean front lots in North Dakota to unsuspecting widow ladies.

Or, you can set up a shell company, scam someone out of their hard earned money, $20-$50 at a time, and then use that to buy a Ferrari. Maybe sell chances to win a Ferrari on Fchat. (No wait, someone already did that one.)

I understand that using a religious theme for scams works well too.

Or, you can get you ass to work, like the rest of us, doing something honest, well, except for maybe one or two of us, and EARN THE MONEY to buy the car.

Or, if that doesn't appeal to you, BUY LOTTERY TICKETS, LOTS OF THEM, and pray for intervention from a higher power.

Or, if all else fails, freakin' steal one.

I obsessed about them at age 16, could have bought one in my late 20's, but didn't get to it till I was 53. There are plenty of affordable cars with the horse badge out there. Just make a plan and stay with it.

Its better to move up the automotive ladder than hop right into a Ferrari.

I'm 31 and I'm ready to move on to something different. I guess buying a Ferrari at 23 was a bit too soon...

Well said, DGS. However, I am not just looking at the "name" but everything the Ferrari brand represents. I desire, more than ever, to be an owner of this fine Italian beast.

I just hope that maybe in 3-5 years when I will be able to buy one, will the 355 still appeal to me? Will it be available for purchase from private sellers? Will it be too late to get one? Will I have to settle for these "unmagical" 430 or 612 models?

The 355 is always the model that sets my heart aflame, and I hope soon to get one. Never having a girlfriend and being the loner in my family will be worth it all, don't ya think?...lol

    work.
    save.
    invest.

then buy a Ferrari. i could have bought a house in my late teens. i am now in my early 30's. and 4 years into (owning) my first house. i was wild as hell and too crazy. i regret it, as i have more now than i imagined. it takes time to build wealth. work for you goals and one at a time they will come true.

Concentrate on schooling, work really hard, get a college degree early, and with hard work, you might be able to afford one in just a few years. Either that, or become a pimp and a drug dealer...

I find you to be very sad. There is so much more to life than cars. You need to choose a career you will enjoy, not one which will be insufferable, but afford you a Ferrari quickly. As well, go out and enjoy the company of women, I would take the finer sex over a ferrari any day of the week. You need to live a little kid, it doesn't sound like you are doing that.

I get very nervous. And plus, before I radically changed my looks (hair, acne, clothes), I wasnt all that appealing.

It's like Ferrari's and Lambo (maybe), are the only things I have to look forward to.

I once had a crush on this girl. But she started dating this other guy. I've always dreamed of driving a 550, passing them on the street, saying "EAT MY DUST!!!!" as I do a 180 in the middle of the road with smoke everywhere!!!

    Then again, I dont have a F-Car yet. :(

Alright, see now that is incredibly immature. Ferrari and Lambo should NOT be at the top of your list of things to look forward too, these are material objects with little true value. So you have struck out with one girl, I have struck out with HUNDREDS!! I certainly don't want a ferrari so I can do smoke shows in front of them to make them jealous because guess what? that is so incredibly petty, it is unreal, maybe that's why you don't have a girl?
