Congrats to Michael (The Carreaper) on his very recent acquisition of a Series 1 car. His purchase made me wonder if later 308 engines such as the QV or even 328 engines can be fitted into a GT4. That would be a helluva track car!

I've seen a modded QV in a 308GTBi, so I know that's possible. Can't see why a QV motor wouldn't work in an earlier car. The only thing is that all the electronic gizmos would have to be moved too. That's the one major advantage of the GT4, it was always a carb'd car :)

There is GT4 in Australia with a QV with carbs. Goes very well apparently. Some of the Aussie guys may have pics....

This is something I've been considering, as someone in the UK had a QV engine and gearbox for sale from a Mondial recently. I know I'd at least need a higher pressure fuel system and a new exhaust. But I didn't have any idea if the engine mounting points and clutch etc would fit?

Problem is, it could easily end up costing more than just buying a 308 GT4!

There's an excellent chance that the QV block will mate up with your GT4's bell housing & transmission. You'll need the QV bell housing spacer for the sensors, & qv flywheel to trigger them unless you go carb'd & custom ignition.

I recently spoke with someone who'd dropped a 328 block onto a QV trans. Only mods were to the vibration damper & damper bolt to accommodate the slightly longer 328 crank!

The 328 engine mounts are definitely different from the QV mounts, so the match-up avoided that problem.

Ther is a 308GT4 fitted with a QV engine injected and carb in Australia. Conversion worth more than the cars.

There is one here in NC but I haven't see it in a while. Had a custom made flywheel with a Quartermaster clutch (which sucked). Not really nice but did function. I've heard of a Dino that had a 308 engine that I think Norwood built.

Installing a QV engine doesn't necessairily require installing the CIS system & ECUs. There's at least one carb'd 328 written up in fchat.

hey, thats a GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!! i would LOVE TO GET A 4V car and yank all the FI off of it and carb it :) ( evil Reaper grin)

i wonder if the older carb car intakes will work, or if something custom would have to be made???

    thoughts?

we need Atlantaman to chime in , as he seems to take engines out of his modded QV on a regular basis. the 330V12 should be a blast to drive when its back in the QV! perhaps he can help with the GT4 swap details since he uses 328 4V engines.

Russ Turner (Snj5)'s 3.2 liter Mondial carb conversion threads from the old fchat should have pretty much all you ever wanted to know about converting a 328 (3.2 Liter) engine to Carbs. The 3.2L carb intake risers were made by Modena Engineering in AU.

Luckily all the pix seem to have survived:

    Paul,
That engine is absolutely awesome. Can't wait to see the dyno data on that...and the bonnet to go over those trumpets!

My little fusebox is proud to be in that car!

Still fabricating items but getting close to 1st run out of the shops parking lot. Now that the brakes have an auxilary source of vacuum stopping is now possible.

A friend of mine has fitted a fuel injected 3.2 to his GT4, the car was used in the UK classic race series and he still drives it on the road.

I will ask him for some pictures and post them later.

    Regards,
    Phil.

What would the advantage be with the QV motor ? A 308 carbed motor from that era would be more powerful. The only way to gain an advantage is to build one like Sloan, with carbs.
