Yep, thanks. You are right. Top photo from Montjuich confirms this as it shows both cars! I wonder which "monofaro" this was as no such car was ever owned within Spain!

    Ciao!

I haven't found much about Enrique Tintoré, but according to Stats F1 (www.statsf1.com) he raced the A6GCS in 1949 as a privateer, whereas his 1948 4CL entry was by Scuderia Auto Spagnola. He only raced twice (1948 GP of l'Albigeois and 1949 GP of Marseille, both of them were non-championship (F1) races, since the proper F1 races began in 1950) in competitions covered by Stats F1.

    Cheers,
    Gabriel

I would bet that his monofaro was either sn2003 (which was build as the coupe and converted to Spyder-specs in March 1949 but "destroyed" on 6 June 1949! ...but WHY???) or sn2004 (later also "destroyed"....). The race in Montjuich was on 6 March 1949. This would fit to both cars!

    Hello Walter,
at Ospedaletti for the "XII Coppa Riviera di Ponente" Fezzardi race was 32° of class and in the Ospedaletti's Circuit raced with number 6 (seen photo) and he was 2° of class.
Coppa Riviera di Ponente was a regularity race (saturday 8 November) while Circuit of Ospedaletti was a race of speed (sunday 9 November).
At Intereuropa Fezzardi (n° 40),was 2° in his class. For this 2 hours race only a driver.
Another question is the colour ? But who remind ?
    Ciao

Just received this from a friend. Anyone know the s/n ?

US$6250 in 1949 was about twice the cost of the most expensive American car.

Probably, given the perfect match of an unusual name, military connection and plausible dates. Another reference (http://forum.armyairforces.com/Lt-Col-Charles-W-Audet-aka-Chow-Bucket-Charlie-m153517.aspx) suggests that he passed away in 2008 at age 91, RIP. Apparently he was a coast artillery officer captured in the Philippines and imprisoned by the Japanese, so IMO he certainly deserved a Maserati on his return to the states.

I'm virtually certain of it. The two-window body configuration could only be #051, #054 or #055 (see my post 375 above and Corrado's post 443). John noted that at the time of the photo this car had a Jaguar engine (post 403) and engine #055 has for many years been in California, so under this hypothesis both would at least be on the same side of the Atlantic.

Thank you for mentioning this. It's certainly a beautiful example. The PDF offering sheet might go up on my wall for a while.

Anyone know what is being asked for it ?

If you would send me your e-mail address by PM, I would be happy to forward it. The file size is 3.5 MB so I think it is too big to post here, copyright notwithstanding.

    Don,
I sorted the history of this car and found photos of it. In summer 2008 I brokered this car to the present owner in the UK and provided an updated documentation. Unfortunately I thought at that time that the car had been raced by Giuseppe Musso, brother of then-time-Maserati-driver Luigi Musso. I was wrong and this was confimed by photos I later found that clearly show a different car with Musso in both races mentioned by MARTIN CHISHOLM in the description of the car posted on his site.

Also I advised some very usefull upgrades that found their way into the car for the current owner. It`s now a perfect runner and clearly in better condition as for any of its previous owners.

    Ciao!
    Walter

What it's happening to cars, like this one.
I'm now involved with old cars, for 32 years and enjoy driving them. I felt in love with pre-war cars about 15 years ago, found my cars, which gave me driving pleasure and I will not sell them, before I'm to old to drive. Maybe, when I'm back in Europe, I will find a car, which might will give me more pleasure, as I spoked before with Walter.
Thinking of Sportscars, from the fifties onwards, to which, I was adicted before, I can't find a more beautiful car then the Zagato A6 G-54. Some Fiat 8V's, Ferrari 250 Europa GT #0415 GT, or the SWB Berlinettas and the Alfa 1900 SS Touring are looking good, from any angle, but the Maserati beats them all, it looks, sounds, drives good and has a racing pedigree. Short, a dream for every Collector, who likes to drive and to get old with this.

But this car is for sale nearly every year, like most of the top price cars, which where announced as sold, in the last ten years, every time, by the same high class dealers, Sheehan, Symbolic, F.Junction and others in the US, Mergard-Bernardi and their barchetta page in Germany, Chisholm, Fisken, Talacrest in GB, Guikas in France and all the auction houses. Pure speculation, trying to push the prices?

What's the deal and who's the fool?

    Regards
    Jorg

Walter, my compliments for publicly acknowledging a previous misinterpretation. A correct history can only enhance cars like this (and our esteem for you).

Jorg/odin, I think I can guess what is happening. I have several collector cars, the most valuable of which is probably worth more than ten times as much as the least. For the good of my family, I must continuously consider whether the most valuable cars should remain in my ownership. I should not tie up so much money in this way if they do not completely please me, or if I fear a loss in value. The less valuable cars hardly matter to my family's financial situation; the more valuable must be continuously evaluated. It makes complete sense to me that more valuable cars would be sold more often. I don't think the possible motivations of dealers have anything to do with it. It is the sellers and buyers who make the decisions, while dealers provide the valuable service of giving liquidity to these assets.

I completely agree with your aesthetic tastes, although I do prefer Vignale Ferraris like #0197 or #0128 to Pinin Farina like #0415. But these cars are not so easy to drive, eh ? The prices are inflated because they can be used in the best events. If someone is not going to use the car like this, maybe it is not very astute to own such an expensive asset. There are many other beautiful things in this world.

    Best,
    Don

    Thanks Don,
you're right, but I doubt, that this Cars are selling. Vignale #0170 ET is for more than 5 years for sale and again in Monaco.
Cars which don't drive well, I don't want. I was looking years for an Maserati Vignale Spider, 'til I got one. Sold this car after just 3 month. I still find this car beautiful, but not to drive. Most old Ferraris are terrible to drive and you must be short, or you don't enter, like me. With my Delahaye I could drive nearly every event, but I use it mostly as daily driver, with a big Funfactor.

    Hi Don,
this car is a perfect driver! The current owner made his wedding-trip in South of France in it and used it on his summer vacation thru France and Northern Spain last year! The car was totally reliable on all his trips. He owned a Ferrari 275 GT 4-cam before and clearly stated that this Zagato gave him the most pleasure of all his GT-cars!

    Ciao!

Delahaye as a daily driver, an A6G Zagato for vacation trips . . . I must not be trying hard enough.

Walter, I don't think I'm ready yet to trade up to a newer model.

Jorg, I am curious what characteristics determine for you whether a car drives well.

    Best,
    Don
