I was wondering, do they make a carbon fiber hood for the 355? Engine hood or any other body part besides the usual you see online? I know it is a rice question... but do they?

Not so wierd. The hot thing to make would be a CF hood solid so the light buckets could be removed. Then relocate headlights in the bumper. You save a ton of weight and get better aero too and clean up the lines

Nope, nothing current.........but there was a day when they did(not OE from thew factory). I'm not really really sure that even the CH355 bumpers were CF, could have been LW FG based on the pricing from the factory(close w/street bumper price and usually CF from Ferrari is rediculous)...Vern would know for sure.

There are some plug moulds and businesses still around that made some othe parts in CF.....Valence I remember did some for a customers CH.

BTW.....rear grille we discussed via PM

For weight savings the $$ is better spent elsewhere - the hood is already fiberglass. If you make it a bit flimsy you can save a few lbs. but that would hurt the look of the car. I know for my STi they make carbon hoods - and they weigh the same as the stock aluminum hood!

I'd look to the fenders first - those are steel. Bumpers too, although on ours the beam is integrated with the cosmetic part. Again on the STi I was able to take off both bumpers (30 lbs of steel) and replace with styrofoam under the cosmetic part.

Here's a thought Xavior - start a thread titled 'Weight saving ideas for 355', I'm sure it will get some great ideas and lots of views.

Contacted them a year ago and it's NLA.....maybe if there was enough interest some of these companies would dust off the cobwebs and get the plug mould ready

Jay, the hood is not FG......but you are right in the fact it is fairly light and the weight savings vs $$$ return is marginal. The weight is in the locking mech, hinges, struts, etc.

Fenders....again weight saved vs $$$ of CF...?????

Bumpers?? Not steel...FG....very heavy...great return on CF or even LWFG

There is a guy in florida that makes a lot of CF parts for them. Supposedly, hood, door skins, fenders, bumpers. (maybe more, don't remember) He is in miami. The hood and fenders would be a waste, the bumpers and engine cover would really help. Scott

We've done hood and fenders - the weight difference of the hood is greater than that of the fenders. Stock 355 fenders weigh 9 lb. each, carbon weighs 3.

Appropriate question - they've never really gone into production. I don't really know how long they'd take - we've been concentrating on "cosmetic" stuff for a while, so if anyone did seriously want fenders, we'd have to really think about how to fit them in with the other more "in demand" parts.
