Isn't it interesting that they tell you not too exceed *90* miles per hour using that compact spare?!? Pretty amazing.

    hi birdman,

yup, that's what you originally said, so to try and order I called goodyear customer service and gave them the 105-80-r18 spec and use, and the lady said there were two options and sent me to a goodyear owned local tire store. When I said I tried that before, she said "tell them to look on the website...that's what I'm doing".

Note this is not a public website she was talking about.

when I got there, I had to convince the people to look, and when they found the two entries, they showed me the web pages with the tire specs. They were the farm tires. List price was $295 like you said.

I guess I'll have to try goodyear again. Really need a contact inside the company that can look at the ferrari records...or maybe the ferrari uk guys have the goodyear part number in their files someplace.

    thanks,
    phil

When you have the opportunity, please see if you have the same situation at Tommy with his campy spare -- it won't fit over his front big Brembo kit...

The pre-ABS 328 compact spare I bought would not fit; I've got the Brembo big brake setup and it wouldn't clear... So I'm going to have to sell it to the highest bidder, I guess...

You actually don't need to. Unlike our full-size spares which mount backside up, the spacesaver spare mounts frontside up, and uses the same hold-down bolt perfectly.

    Hey Mike,
I'm buying Zan's. It's not as clean as yours, but he is local, so no shipping. Sorry about that. I didn't hear from you for a while so I assumed it fit.

I'm sure someone will be happy to take it off your hands!!

Here's news -- the 328 compact spare DOES fit over the Brembo big front brake kit with no problem on my 308QV... *IF* I take the spindle dust cap off first.

So... now I'd like to get replacement/modified dust caps that will clear the compact spare "just in case". I've seen Dom's pic at http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=67296374&postcount=51 but does anyone else have pics of what they've done to make it work?

I'd rather not destroy my stock caps, but it's not too big a deal if I must. I suppose stock replacement parts (#114095) may be available from Ferrari UK.

I finally swapped out my full size spare with my new compact spare. I knew it would give me more room under the front hood, but I was surprised at how much! It allows me to modify and relocate my "dish" that has my amp and equalizer to a more forward position, which gives me even more room.

The top picture pair is the BEFORE, and the bottom pair is the AFTER, though I don't think the pictures make it obvious just how much more usable room there is now.

I have only posted a few times since joining the chat line because I'm still in the acquisition stage of Ferrari ownership and don't have much to contribute. I've learned lots from the forum and will undoubtedly continue to learn. As always, when someone asks for advice, everyone is quick to reply and share their knowledge. I thank you for your very helpful replies.

I'm not certain whether the missing spare was a full-size or a space-saver. The dealer (not a Ferrari dealer) believes it was a spacesaver, albeit there appears to be adequate room for a full-size spare. Some web photos show a spacesaver, but I didn't think about the possible difference betwen the 86-88 pre-ABS and the 89 ABS wheels, so will go back check. Presumably I could use another full-size wheel and tire, but I would prefer originality.
    Cheers.

I found an easy way to do this. Go get a late model Volvo space saver spare 125 - 80- 17 . It has a 5 X 108 bolt pattern but the center hole is a little big so you need to just make up an adapter ring. Go out and buy some studs the same size and use lug nuts (weld them to the studs) and there you have it. Spare runs around $35 from salvage yard and $20 for studs/nuts and center ring. Done deal and clears the brakes without any problems. Enjoy the ride.

    125 x .8 / 25.4 x 2 + 17 = 24.87 Tire dia

    235 x .6 / 25.4 x 2 + 14 = 25.10 My tire dia on my 77 308

I saw online someplace that the space saver tyre spec for the superamerica is 105/80r18. If that's true, someone is making them again - maybe bridgestone.

the 575m was 125/80r17 according to the usa owners manual.

looks like another herring to fish for...wonder what color it'll turn out to be....

    the herring is red....

according to the parts guy at the local ferrari dealer (silicon valley), the superamerica spare is not 105/80r18.

I forgot what he said it was..125 something. If someone else wants to confirm, that would be great.

    Great idea Steve.

Do you know any particular models and years to look for?

I don't have specific years but you need to look at the late 90's or early 2000's. When I get one I'll post it.

I borrowed my bosses spare off of his Volvo S60. It is a 125/80-17, so the diameter is perfect. The bolt pattern is the same and it will clear the caliper, but the offset on it is around +50mm. As you all know, the offset on the 308's is +11mm. I don't know if that would cause a problem since these are only going to be on the car temporarily. One thing though, the compact spare still weighed about 27 pounds (bath scale reads +/- 0.2 #). Not a whole lot of weight savings, but a little more room. I think I might just go with a a can of flat fixer until I can find a compact spare with an offset closer to 11mm. I can move the tools and jack up front to help with the weight distribution.

I was wondering if anyone could verify the offset on the stock 308 space saver? I know the stock wheels were 11mm, however, the pictures of the original Dino space saver seem visually to have a larger offset (Which could be just an illusion since they are so narrow).

    Thanks - Chris

    Blast from the past...

I just bought a 328 space saver rim from dave80gsts (thanks Dave). Now I need one of the nonexistant tires.

    - Did anyone ever find a source for these?
    - Does anyone know of any other vehicle that used the 105/80-18 size spare?
    - Did anyone ever try the motorcycle tire?

    Thanks

    Henry
