I was fortunate to acquire #7557, a 1965 330GT 2+2 SII earlier today (at Aguttes). She was the first SII off the line (with the exception of a prototype), was displayed at the 1965 Paris Autoshow, and served as the 1966 Le Mans Pace Car ("Ford vs Ferrari").

While I've got good connectivity with capable workshops for prior and ongoing concours restorations of my DB4, DB5 (1964 Brochure/AM Works Car), 3500GT, 65 SWB, 73RS, and some modern stuff (Spyker Aileron), I'm a complete newbie to 60s Ferrari after having sought for "a project with a story" for the past few years.

I'm starting my journey in search of Platinum/Concours grade restoration shops in Europe (where the car is located), either integrated or by splitting out the coach- and mechanical work if need be. Any recommendations for shops with 330 GT experience in particular would be appreciated.

Congratulations, beautiful car and cool history! The yellow lenses give it extra character imo. Are you going to return the car to its original Verde Scuro?
See this thread for some information and period pictures of the car.
No restoration recommendations, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come to this thread.

congratulations. Very interesting story and will look gorgeous in verde scuro. And lot of stories to tell!
I have exhibited at PB few times and I can recommend my guys who work on concours cars including PB, Cavallino, and Villa D’Este cars. GPS classic for the mechanics and Quality Cars in Padova who does a lot of work for FC as well. However having restored several barn find including a 275GTB I bought at Gooding several years ago, a concours restoration starting from a complete barn find , is a significant endeavor , no doubt.

You might be better off taking the car back to the US, where you live, for a concours restoration rather than getting it done by some of the more well known restorers in Europe where the costs involved may be more than the value of the car itself. I do not know how much he charges, or how full up he is, but Tom Yang, who sometimes posts here, has a good reputation and knows a lot about restoring 330 GT 2+2s.

The work and costs involved restoring a 330 GT 2+2 are at least as much as those for something like a 275 GTB and it does look like the car you have bought needs lots of work.

    GREAT PURCHASE!

To me, it makes the most sense to bring it home to the east coast. Francois Sicard or his successor Tom Yang are in CT and NY respectively. Tom Yang has probably done more Ferrari 2+2s than anyone. He has at least 2 Series 2 330 GT 2+2s in his shop now.

That said, there is a shop in Lithuania that does good work at lower cost (Tom Yang knows their name and has their info) - a PF Coupe that was done there in coordination with Tom and finished by Tom (for the details) got platinum.

Good luck! I hope you bring it back to Le Mans marshal's car spec!

I know that these guys do an excellent job. But how does it work with the ital;ian 22% VAT (sales tax) if the client doesn't live in Europe and the car will be exported after the restauration? Would he still have to pay the VAT since the work is performed in Italy? Could make a big diffenece on the total cost of the restauration.

In my experience dealing with both shops in the UK and in The Netherlands, VAT is refunded upon export. I generally use Cars Worldwide for import/export and they're great at coordinating stuff like this.

when you send your car from outside EU to the EU for restauration then you have to declare this at the customs of the country where you bring it. may be then you have to pay a deposit what you will get back when you take the car out again. and then you not have to pay the VAT or after you exportet the car again you will get the VAT back from the shop what did the restauration. I did this several times with swiss customers because switzerland is not EU

What is this device on the engine?
I had a 330 GT Series II, S/N 8125, and there was nothing like this on my engine.
Also, note the three hoses on the right hand fender well.
Could this car have been fitted whr A/C?

Bob, your 330GT was 8195, not 8125. And 8195 disappeared in 1983, so may have been used for a donor chassis.
From my records, you sold it in 9/75 to someone on NY. Do you know who bought it?
