I was just thinking. Something you can use year round, even when snow falls or you have to go onto a beach in the summer, or there's ice on the ground.

What's everyone's ideas? Remember, the car does have to be fun to drive also.

    Here's my list:
    1. Audi TT: I've seen these cars, plow through snow where I live, but sometimes, they do get stuck. Ground clearance is problem.
    2. Any Lambo with AWD: Might be fun to drive, but too low if their is any snow, more then a couple inches.
    3. Subaru Legacy GT: awesome handling, decently fast, great winter car? same problem as the rest. it's low on the ground.
    4. Impreza STI: SUPER fun in the snow, and I've seen people drive these, back when we had the nor'easter.

I think the perfect candidate, would be:
    Porsche Cayenne Turbo

Why? because it's fast, handles great, and it can be used every single day, even if you have a foot of snow. Top Gear took it out, to where the gov't tests tanks, and the Cayenne tackled all of these hard tasks with ease.

You'd have to ask a NSX owner, but I've heard they're pretty decent at being daily drivers. They just happen to need only oil and tires as far as I know.

I think the 911 is the perfect daily driver sports car. Reliable, fun to drive, good looking, AWD if you want it.

I was always anti-porsche until a year ago when I drove one and fell in love with it. Im now comtemplating buying one as a daily driver (currently using a benz E55) for Xmas.

997 C4S, I just ordered one for the wife for when the weather is too nasty for the Z06.

A Cayenne, in any flavor, is not a sports car. The handling is good when compared to other SUVs, but it is poor when compared to a sports car.

True but a Cayenne Turbo is faster around the ring than a 996 C2.

Unless you are going to be spending a lot of time on the 'ring that statistic is meaningless.

Cayenne for sure. I have one and a 911 C4S. In theory the 911 should do well because its AWD, but I find the tires are too wide and the car is too low. Its not a good snow car unless the road is very flat. In the mountains, forget it. Plus the AWD eats up what little trunk you have in the front so its not suitable for everyday errands/shopping.

I had a Gemballa CT and spent a lot of time really using the car for all its capabilities, took it to the track, and took it off roading. With all the cars I have, if I had to choose only 1, it would be the cayenne. Plus it tows an 8000lb trailer, for when you want to take even more serious toys to the track.

The STI would be a good choice too, never owned one but see them a lot at the ski resorts and the track.

Get a new Miata with the folding hardtop. You will not regret it.

Sports sedan: BMW 335ix sedan AWD (40's)

I would love to see a Z06 drive in 6 inches of snow. Not just one sunny day in December but everyday for the whole winter. I drove my stradale in 6 inches of snow once but wouldn't want to do it everyday. As for comments that a Cayenne isn't a sports car, take the Porsche Driving Experience with professional instructors on the Barber race track in Brimingham AL and after you've changed your underwear you might want to rethink that. Sure it wont out-corner a z06 or 360, but neither of those cars are true all season cars.

Ive had an SL55 for around a year now and I dont car about what people say about its aerodynamics or it being ugly. The torque it has on the highway is flat out awesome, it is the best car I've ever driven and yes I haven't driven that many cars, but I did drive a friends 360 for 4 days while he was out of town a year ago and the SL55 is AWESOME mine has 39K now, it had 24K when I bought it. No problems whatsoever

I'm a bit confused. Are you asking for the best year-a-round SPORTS CAR, or just the best year-a-round DAILY DRIVER?
And BTW, a Cayane is not a sports car, no matter how fast it is in a straight line.

I owned a 1st gen TT for a couple years. I never had an issue with ground clearance in the snow, and my car was lowered with H&R springs. For the most part they do great in the snow, but the main factor to why they can have trouble is your choice of tires. If you plan on driving the car year round in an area that gets a lot of snow, invest in some good snow tires.

I am sure either car would be a blast. But if foul weather is concearned, you are only as good as your tires are. I haven't seen many STI's with winterish tires...

I've actually seen a bunch of them in ski resort parking lots. Years ago, as teenagers, we would drive up to Utah in my buddy's Subie. That little wagon always amazed me. We hit some serious snow storms and it never let us down.

911-997 has been fantastic. No long warm ups, great visibility, feels faster than the 360 I had with a superior gearbox. It is a little low for example you can not go through most auto carwashes. I always thought they were boring but now I think they are the best sports cars made of all brands.

I have the new gen Audi TT ('08), and that's the car you'd want. Either fwd or quattro, DSG gearbox for fun or, if you're in traffic, just slip it into 'D' (Porsche has either a manual or the Tiptronic automatic -- choose and compromise), fuel economy is decent and when you fold down the rear seat it swallows a lot of stuff. Plus, the interior is quite a bit nicer than the Porsches and MSRP is quite a bit lower. The handling far exceeds anything you'll ever need on a dry public road. Goes through carwashes fine, and much rarer than a 911.

    Done deal. ;)

    +1. It is a truck.

I have to agree with you 100%. The Turbo is an awesome car, whereas the Gemballa makes it better.

It looks nice, but Audi made the 2nd gen TT, so much better. I've always found the original kind of "bubble-ish," like as Prius.
