    Congrats. Every man's dream.
As to the "red knob", the choke perhaps. Others here will know for sure.
Yes, the age of the timing belts is a very real concern. Loose one, and the blessing becomes a nightmare.
    Good luck and enjoy.

Get the belts done asap. Cost of operation. If you don't get them done, you are looking at a huge problem.

Hey guys! thanks for your replies! Small detail: I won it on Friday the 13th (of March) and afterwards I went to a concert of my all time favorite rockband AC DC, so that was the best day of my life real.

Anyhow, I'm looking at the invoice here, a service has been done. O and luckily, there's a Ferrari shop 1 kilometer from here, and I know the guy fairly well, it' High Performance in Nieuwkerken... the Belgians will know it. Befor handing it over to the winner, they had a service done for € 1858,86 including changing oils of all kinds, and also the distribution belt, alternator belt, and compressor belt (not sure if this is the right description because it's all in french).

    The remarques however:
It seems to have a loss of water at the head gaskets (costs about € 2500 to change), it needs a revision of the back brakes, and carburators... Anyhow forst thing I'll do is let the guy from High Perforamnce have a look at it.

I do think that the mirrors are electrical, there is a small adjustment device inside (simular to Alfa Romeo Spiders), but it doesn't seem to work. Also the windows are VERY slow (but I believe Birdman has a good workshop on that). Also the head lights act funny, they seem to blink eyes, they just do whatever, seperately from one another.

The question that made me win the car was (this you don't believe): What nationality did Higgins have?
I must say: the other guy answered wrongly to the question: in which state does Magnum work? He said 'Florida' :) The guys at the radio station hadn't even begon with the hard questions yet, and I must say, I got help from some intelligent friends, because when you are in a finale to win this car, you get VERY nervous!

I'll keep you guys posted, I'm heading towards my insurrance company!! ;-)

    Thata

If its a carb car you might as well remove all the emissions rubbish as its not needed in Europe and could go wrong

Blinking headlights is sometimes a minor adjustment (eg loose screw) but also can be an issue with the relays which if you are lucky just need removing and putting back in

There are speedo specialists nearer than California who can replace the face if necessary

As noted above you need to be sure if the service included the cam belt and if not do it immediately so have a baseline for your own service history (in UK a cambelt service could cost about EUR 1800 so that bill may be correct)

And check in at the Belgian section here

I find this a tough question, because I think what do they want me to answer? Higgins was an English character in the series but Higgins was played by an American actor. What did you answer?

Congratulations to seeing AC/DC oh and also to win the Ferrari! :)
I have exactly the same car and I am completely restoring mine. Once you look closer you will see that the mirror analogy holds true to most of the car. It all looks funky and cheap sort of like a Fiat but its all expensive, don't break anything and don't throw anything away thinking "this is garbage" even if it looks like it.
The obvious things like Bumpers etc are not the real problems, the real problem is the engine transmission suspension electrical. You will find that if you get it checked out and if you put your mind to it you can figure out most yourself and save lots of money.

The answar to the question was 'English', but I said it befor realizing it might have been 'British'... So for a split second I feared but then the said the had a winner, and I knew the other guy made a mistake. The rest is history.
For the mirrors, I know they look dodgy but I also know it's normal and I was just wondering on how to adjust them without touching the mirrow glass itself.

I went through the previous invoices (last 9 years) and it scared me ALOT! Either the previous owner drove it badly, seems the car has been replaced entirely! But if you analyze them (the invoices) You'll see it's 75% manhours. A friend of mine also has a 308, but drives it less then 100 km per year. Still he maintains the car, but also his costs are very low obviously. He bought it a couple of years ago for € 25000 and can sell it now for € 38000 easily! Anyhow, he's a mechanic so he can change oil and such, saving him heaps of money.

To conclude here's a picture I took about 3 years ago on a photoshoot (I used to do fashion :) with my friends Black 308.
    Kind greetings - Kris

    Hi Kris,
how lucky can you get? I followed the show as well but didn't play, so can't blame you for winning. Winning the 'Magnum' 308 isn't that bad. You're from st.-N?
I heard you on the radio last week: now I don't suppose your wife / GF reads here you can tell us: the car IS a chickmagnet isn't it? ;)

    Hey Kris,

Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride. A Ferrari nutter and an AC/DC fan - way to go!

Bert308 is right - it's a tough question because the actor was American, despite the English character.

Not sure on the 'chickmagnet' thing: because I don't have licence plates yet (tomorrow I will). I will take the highway to hell, eventhough I don't have a radio :-S

As for Jurgen: yes, I'm from Sint-Niklaas Belgium. Keep me posted on events, will you?

    Hi Kris,

    congrats from another Belgian !

I had a 328 GTS in the past and am now close to buying another one (308), so if you need any advice, experience feedback, send me a PM.

I know Dorian in High Performance and he is very capable of doing an analysis on your car. There is also a good garage in Brussels (Gipi Motors - search Google.be) which specializes in the 'older' models.

Suggest you get the basics sorted first (mechanical & electrical), drive it all summer and do the 'nice to have's during winter break so you can save your wallet.

For insurance, you can get the classic insurance with Ethias (basic but cheap) or omnium with Troisfontaine (I had my 328 insured with them).

    Good luck and enjoy !

    Frank

I think the question is unambiguous. Higgins is the name of the character and british. John Hillerman is the actor, Texan. He actually played Higgins' brother once, a Texan...

Congratulations with the car, it was not pure luck, you deserve it.

Did the slow down cylinder 1-4 and 5-8 only come on us-speced cars.

In other words. If you see a car for sale claiming it is a euro-model AND the car has these indicaters is it then a fraud??
