This weekend we will see the return of the European GP, not to be held at the Nurburgring in Germany as it was during the Schumi era, but in Spanish city of Valencia!
It was not long ago that Bernie Ecclestone said that no country should have 2 races, and canceled the San Marino GP because it was actually held in Italy and he also canceled one of Germany's two F1 races. However, on June 1 last year he announced that Spain would be allowed to have two races. Bernie, being the businessman as always has gone back on his word, and followed the money, knowing fine that the Valencia race will sell out easy and make good profits due to the massive support from the Spanish for there hero Alonso.

Now iam just wondering if the same thing could happen in the UK in a few years. With Sliverstone losing the British GP to Donington in 2010, the UK will have 2 circuits up too FIA's F1 standard, and If Hamilton keeps progressing as he has been so far in F1, 2 UK races could be sold out easy, Iam sure !

Well its just a thought, and i cant think of what they would call a 2nd UK race, as the "european gp" name is already being used ! Maybe the British Gp and the English Gp??

If a country is willing to put on a street race for us they can have two races IMO. This valencia race should be awesome I've read the track is nothing like monaco and will offer the driver's many opportunities to pass one another.

Bernie has openly wanted a London street race for a long time, one in Paris too, but so far the plans have been turned down !

In 1993 the British GP was at Silverstone and the European GP was at Donington, so it can be done. However I think it is very unlikely that Bernie would allow races at both of these circuits in the same year again. He probably would be happy with London (street race) and Donington though.

After all the hiatus on the Silverstone GP weekend..its gone very, very quiet.

I think this is another Ecclestone v BRDC wind-up

-the link from Donington to the M1
-unburned aviation fuel on the racetrack
-helicopter movement so close to a regional airport
    -track suitability

4 reasons why it won't happen and why werent the Donington PR people shouting about it to anyone who would listen?

As far as city races, it seems that they're at least getting smart about them. The cities considered have more than the traditional grid-system roads, which is what helped kill American interest in F1 in the 80s.

Octane has an interesting article about Donington and its bid/chances to get the GP: They think it is all a clever plan by Bernie to make more money:

If Donington becomes a reality, Bernie gets more money from the organizer and is happy.

If Donington fails, which is what Octane thinks is going to happen, then Bernie will cash in the default fee and can sell the open spot to another Asian GP. He'll make even more money and is even more happy.

2 GPs in the UK? Only over Bernie's dead body. Hey, there's an idea! :)
