No way! I have bragging rights until his is done! He'll get over it, he's a big boy Are you sure 1000% sure about that painting being centered?
Are you willing to draw a life size 348 for me Carsten? Sweet!! I love canvas art!! I just bought some 'abstract art' actually, from Ebay. I dont know the artist, but I loved their work. I have yet to hang it up. It is 4 canvas pieces and looks lovely. Has Tina considered, or does she sell her canvas work? That one looks great!! Having two very talented people under the same roof is amazing!
Indeed you do my friend, and please tell everyone that this is the very first drawing I have ever finished in this size yet......also it is of course the one that took me the most working hours to finish ( I worked on it every day for more than a month)......and the one with the most details ......at least three of my pens have been worn out on this piece (not completely empty though, but the tip has been worn out).......it is most probably the one of my drawings to feature the most lines, and they will be counted in at least tens of thousands........ and together with Hank's drawing it is the one that is gonna travel the longest distance from here to get to it's new home (so far)!! It's simply my best ever (so far)....no doubt at all!! Tina's canvas is centered......dead on!!
If only I had the paper in the right quality and size Mate, I would!!! Tina says: Thanks Mate!!! She has sold a few of her canvas works over the years! She has done many different styles and even a few Ferrari inspired works!!! One was almost sold to the former Danish Ferrari importer, but unfortunately he sold his business before it got so far!! Now we have it just over our bed.......nice!!! I'm as proud of Tina and her painting talent, as she is of my drawing talent!!! With love to both of you!!! Tina and Carsten
Sorry, I am just sooooooooooo happy.....simply over the clouds!!!........I finally found THE ONLY place in Denmark that will and can do a fullsize scan of Chris's drawing, and that means of course that lithos will be available.....BUT in a VERY limited edition only, since the cost of having lithos produced in this size (and in a small batch) is substantially higher than I have ever imagined!!! Arround 25 lithos at the most, will be available for sale! Tomorrow I will guard and protect the drawing with my life as I personally take it to the printer in Aarhus, Denmark, where the most skilled employee of the printer company will make the scan in the best possible quality, all while I'm watching that no harm is done to the drawing! After the scanning, I will personally take the drawing back home with me again so that no harm is done to it while the lithos are produced! The printer will produce the lithos and send them to me arround Thursday or Friday this week!!! Maaan,.....All day today has been spent visiting every single printer in the region, and calling or emailing every single printer (almost) in the Kingdom of Denmark, only to find out that it was an almost impossible task to find a company with a scanner big enough and good enough to catch the feather-light lines in this drawing!!! Luckily there was ONE company that could manage and handle this......and luckily I found them!!! Have a wonderful day everyone.....I will for sure!!! Carsten
......I'm affraid it could delay the shipping by a day or two......however, I would prefer to send the drawing along with some prints, since a couple of prints rolled arround the drawing and stuffed in a cardboard tube will work as an additional protection of the drawing itself, and I would hate to see the drawing damaged on the long journey!!! I hope to be able to send the tube from here by Thursday at the latest! I wil be at the printers in Aarhus in about five hours from now, and I will try my best to get the prints made today, so I can get the tube sent from here tomorrow......I cross my fingers for that!!! All my best Carsten
I am so very sad and sorry today, as I was happy yesterday The printing company in Aarhus did their very best to try and scan the drawing, but all to no avail.....Seriously, I think no big format scanner will ever catch the lines of this drawing to my satisfaction.........sooo many lines where lost or got blurry in the scannings, that I decided it better not to offer prints of this drawing to my customers or friends! Perhaps I am too critical or too much of a perfectionist, but it was nowhere near the quality I am used to with my normal A3 prints and it was simply not good enough to satisfy me! I would never have my name on prints of the quality that could be achieved by their state of the art machines!!! I am affraid there's no hope for lithographs or prints of this one......I am so very sorry everyone, that I cannot offer you any prints of this drawing, and I'm even more sad that I cannot have a copy of the drawing myself! That hurts me very badly..... Because of this letdown by modern technology I will now seriously reconsider this size of drawings for the future......now, I am not so sure I will do any more of these, and if I decide to do another one or more, it will most probably be exclusively for my very close and trusted dear friends or for myself, and they will be true unique works, not available as prints!! However, I have not yet made my final decission about this, but it will be reconsidered for sure!!! @Chris, I would have been more than happy to send you the drawing tomorrow, but I'm affraid I can't do that either .......... please, can I have your address details.....PLEASE????? And as a sidenote Chris, "nothing is so bad that it's no good at all", and.......your drawing is and will always be a true unique-one-of-a-kind-handmade-Carsten-Christiansen-impossible-to-reproduce-with-today's-so-called-state-of-the-art-modern-technology-artwork!!!! ......and besides, I am sooo proud of that piece of work, my finest ever.......the guys at the printing company had never seen the like!!! So please do take good care of her Buddy!! Sincerely Carsten
Hi Carsten, I can hardly imagine that there isn`t a possibility to reproduce your painting! a) Probably you should try scanning parts of it and then put the pieces together via computer. b) Isn`t there some possibility of a photographic reproduction via conventional film (not digital!)? Regards Christian
Yes, I presume the printing is the issue, as scanning and stitching together an image seems reasonable.
I know I was very naive and stupid, and I did not believe there was any proper way of doing a satisfactory scan and printing, but in the end we found the perfect solution to solve the problems! Prints are available!!! Prints will be available in both full size and in half the size of the original, but will only be made to order since the cost is somewhat higher than usual for these very fine prints! Full size prints will be available on 200g/sqm photo paper, and can be laminated with a thin foil to make it endure wiping off with a wet cloth! Non-laminated prints will have to be framed behind glass, as will the half size prints!! The guys who are doing the prints for me, were amazed by the quality of the lines in my drawing, and they were convinced that prints in twice the size of the original would look very good as well, and there is a posibility that prints will later be available in twice the size of the original, also made on 200g/sqm photo paper!! We made a small test print of part of the dashboard from Chris's drawing, and it really has amazing details......even when blown up to twice the size!!! Please pm or email me at: [email protected] for prices, or if anyone should be interested in obtaining prints!!! All my best Carsten
BTW: Pics of these new SUPER HQ prints will be posted in this thread, but only after Chris have recieved his original drawing and the first of these prints of each size! Cheers Carsten
I love the drawing, but there is a part that has always bugged me about it. As an artist myself, perhaps it is just noticeable to me, and no one else really. But really really awesome pen work, i cannot believe how detailed you got and how intricately perfect everything is. Overall, a big BRAVO for you, sir.
Absolutely, its just the reflection in the puddle in the rear view... The reflection is bound by the same laws of perspective as the rest of the world, so the front tyre of the reflection should touch the front tyre of the car. Subsequently, the lines of the reflection vehicle should all have the same vanishing points as the real car. To illustrate this, i just opened up Alias Studiotools, a 3d modelling program, and turned on the ground plane reflection and positioned a model i have built into an approximately similar position as the rear view in the drawing. I truely do not intend to take anything away from your masterpiece, its one of the most common things that I notice. As a car designer, perspective is inescapable to me. I have a hard time looking at Cubist paintings (haha)! But seriously, excellent work! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks again Lindsay! I guess you're right about that!!! I take it as yet another possitive proof that my work is entirely handmade by a human, and not yet another computer made attempt at making an artwork! When I made the puddle, I had only the picture you'll find somewhere in this thread posted by Chris, to look at, and I made it as good as I could, except that I tried to extend the puddle just a little, to show a more clear picture of the car in the puddle which is also seen in Chris's picture! Excellent computer rendering by the way!! Cheers Carsten
