That is a beautiful car Sparky. I would gladly live in a singlewide trailer to own that. You have Personal Email about the strike. Check your Fchat email!! I need to Get away from the Flying Aluminum Tube Company for a while
They can avoid this strike by sharing the projected wealth this company is going to make when they market two of the most revolutionary aircraft to hit the skys in the last 60 years, all composite, lightweight, more fuel efficient and longer range than ANYTHING OUT THERE, ALL IN ONE AIRPLANE. ANY PAYLOAD, ANY TIME ANY DISTANCE within the original design parameters, No if and or buts. You can fill them FULL of passengers, cargo and fuel and they WILL fly the FULL distance the company says they will. This is NOT true of other maufactureres We are the guys and the gals that are designing and implimenting new and efficient methods of constructions to make this possible. We deserve an above average compensation for the development, success and assembly of these systems. WE GRUNTS are what makes it happens and happen on time, ON DEADLINE. Sure, there are tens of people on the street that would love to have our jobs for a fraction of the wage but their knowledge is also A FRACTION of what is needed. So who gets to train them ?us . THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS!!
Slightly changing the subject, but a co-worker informed me that down in Mobile, Alabama at the USS Alabama display, they HAD a B-52, SR-71, B-25 and a P-51 on outside display. Any word on how, or if, these planes survived the hurricane?
It seems to me that people have taken shelter in the battleship during one of the lesser hurricanes and would assume that it is ok. Didnot know about the other outside aircraft. The Baker two-bits has a thick high lift wing and if it wasnt protected was more than likely severly damaged. The 51 and 71 are more durable and should be ok. We shall see. Looks like SPASSO is out on strike from the flying aluminum tube company. Hope its setteled in a timely manner.
Best of luck with this beauty. I had my '89 TR for 4 1/2 years and loved every minute and inch of it. It was a 99 1/2 point car when judged at Cavallino for 2 years in a row. Although I love my 360, the TR is still the sexist FCar made til today......IMO. Well, maybe the Enzo has it beat.
Quality time to rebuild the carbs on the Tramp, install the supercharger, fix a few things around the house.
9-04-05 Red streak seen tearing through K. Falls, police in hot pursuit.............................. .........meanwhile back at the Spasso domicile, some quality time rebuilding (for the third time) a 53 year old giant fuel injector. A new tip (again), new electrodes, pump and blower (thanks Dave H), new fuel filter. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hummmm....doesnt look like a 308 part 2 me. Must have something to do with the Impulator thingy garage heater that makes the floor shake and causes the power gods at Grand Coulee dam to cut in another generator and smile with glee knowing that proffits will soar. A necessity in the frozen Northwest. Heat my puny 21x21 space with a 5kw 220v heater from home depot. Power is only 8 cents/kw here....thats 40 cents/hr. Figure it costs $2.00/day to keep gar a toasty 60 deg. Not 2 bad. Streak not Image Unavailable, Please Login
FINALLY!! Got it back together and running. A little tweaking with the air/fuel mixture and it was running like a little jet engine on a slightly different mix of Jet A. This unit takes care of 2200 feet of house and 1000 sq ft of floor in the garage with 170 degree water circulation system. Very efficient but not very cheap this year for a fillup. About double from last year. I think I'll go Nuke next year. That paint job adds at least 10,000 BTU to the efficiency of that furnace Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was thinking maybe I could gear the blower up a little and add seven injectors in place of the carburetors on the 308. A bit smokey on start up but the torque should be endless. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yea...also keep the mosquitoes out. In a quandry about wax.....zanio....zymol...mothers...griots....mop & glow. Waddya use? So many waxs, so little time.
HA! Do a search on Fchat and you'll get an encyclopedia!! FIRST! Remember you are dealing with a paint system from 1987. SECOND! It's a Ferrari paint job (crappy). If I am not mistaken yours is color coat/ clear coat system. Check your paint sticker for type of paint. Here is what I do with my Acrylic Enamel paint job but will be just as safe as for your clear coat. I am POSITIVE that there will be some disagreements to my methods and selections. This is what works for me without paying silly prices for highly recommended but usually VERY overrated products. 1. Strip wash the car with a strong solution of dishsoap (with citrus) to get all of the old wax and greases off the car. It sounds scary but the trick is to rinse rinse rinse!!!! Most water leaves spots on your car because it has minerals and salts in it. I am on a well and my water has minimal trace minerals and salts. The salts do the spotting. (Glad my car is yellow). Municipal supplies also has chlorine in it. Not good when it spots. As the spots dry the minerals and salts are concentrated and will etch the paint. What to do? 1. Get the spots off your car as quickly as possible. With the car thoroughly covered in water I will use a Waterblade then take the car for a spin. When I get back I towel it off. 2. Rinse with clean water. Rinse ALOT. Rinse, rinse, rinse!!! I use a "Whole house" filter from Lowes Hardware that I run my hose water through. It uses a 2 micron carbon filter in it.(Really really small). I try not to use the Waterblade because it can scratch if there is ANYTHING on the car or in the rinse water you are wiping off with it. On my beater 308 it doesn't matter that much. 3. Blowdry the car with a leaf blower! I haven't done it myself but it probably works pretty good as long as it doesn't shoot any debris into the paint. 4. Blowdry the car with compressed air and towel off. I use Terry (bath) towels, others swear by microfiber towels (guys with black cars). Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Now that the car is really really clean you can then polish it with a POLISH. Not to be confused with WAX. I use a commercial buffer but a random/orbital buffer will work as well, safer for the novice too. I use Meguiars #83 because it starts out as a mild cutting agent that changes to a fine polish the longer you run with it. This takes out the fine scratches and usually most of the swirl marks that guys with black cars are plagued with. I ALWAYS keep the pad WET. Never run a dry pad on the car. YOU CAN BURN THE PAINT. You can also perform this task by hand until you are more confident. I switch to my waxing pad, yes, there are different grades, and use Meguiers #26, HI-TECH Yellow Wax. This too can be done by hand. I used it on my BMW and the results were amazing. This is Brazilian #1 Yellow Carnuba. It also has the usual polymers, resins and silicones for durability. It is safe for clear coats. The best thing about the #26 wax is it does NOT leave a white residue. Meguiars is a fine product and well above anything that was available when your car was new. The results are more than satisfying and unless you are going the concours route you are just creating more cost and work. I have been told that my 308 (warts and all) is above average in appearance and at the same time never shying away from a rainstorm or dirty winter roads. Once it's cleaned up it is easy to keep it that way. When I finished the Bimmer I dropped a polishing rag about the size of a dish towel directly on the middle of the hood. It slid right off the car onto the ground and you know the hood on an E34 doesn't slope that much. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it!! Oh yeah, Once I am done waxing then the only carwash soap I use later is Griot's. It won't strip your wax off. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Too bad you are so far away, it would be fun to lavish a little detailing on the mistress. By the way, did the cops ever catch you when you went blasting through town today?
I wash my wheels with simple soap and water, like the Griots car wash solution. They also have a wheel cleaner that removes brake dust quite well.
I almost forgot, For the first time around I wash my tires with Whestley's Bleche White to get the layers and layers of tire dressing goo off the previous owners applied. It also removes the "browning" caused by ultraviolet light. This is nasty stuff, wear safety glasses, don't inhale the mist and don't spray it directly on your wheels, especially polished ones. It leaves the tires a natural dark grey ready for a good dressing. Spray it on when the tires when they are DRY. Use a small scrub brush on them, respray as required. DO NOT let it dry before you are through scrubbing. Wash off with water thoroughly. I use a tire dressing but it CANNOT have any petroleum distallates in it. You might as well use brake fluid or motor oil on your tires to dress them up. It looks good for a while but destroys them in the end. Most dressings are petroleum based (kerosene) like ARMORAL.(at least they did the last time I checked) I am an ANTI-ARMORAL freak. I will NEVER use their products again after the damage done to numerous cars of my own and by other users. NEVER use it on any interior surfaces. I use Castrol Super Clean Tire Gloss. It is non-petroleum based, it is not a goo that slings off on your paint, it is a thin liquid that I apply with a rag and it isn't shiny. It gives the tire a dark satin look without the shine. Just right me. It seems like the Castrol product has been discontinued or changed. I haven't been able to find it lately. Film at 11:00. I knew that if I asked about polishing and cleaning and scrubbing that the answer would be 'cut 2 the chase' with no BS involved. Thanks for the tips...gee I feel totaly vindicated knowing that $150.00/cc wax does not have 2 be used to shinedacar. 51 pix for jelly belly air race shirts. Very neat. What size be you and your dad? Wont get shirts til Reno, so it will be a few weeks before delivery. Have been out in the gar all day cleaning the black gunk from the bonnet and some eng mount thingies. Simple Green works ok. Just doing small areas as I dont want to slop the whole thing up just yet. The Dagos sprayed that black gunk everywhere. A few pix of Tuskgee Airmen set. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Simple Green is great isn't it? Did they spray the black gunk around to make it more realistsic for the shoot?
Thanks for the pics of Sparky/Jelly belly that you sent to Spasso/DJ/Kid. Wish that Dana and I could get down there to see the action at Reno. The last race that I saw there was in 1965 and 66. Darrell Greenamyer was flying his Bearcat and I remember Leroy Pennhall and crazy Mira Slovak who landed Mr. Mennen P-39 on the ramp in front of the crowd. Wish you good luck this year but don't bend anything on that beautiful airplane. And thank you for the tee. Bob/Dad
For the shoot....no, that was a real one. Jamal Werner or something like that. Cleaned up lower eng compt 2 day. Axles, arms, part of shocks, eng mounts....6 hours of great fun. My hands are toast. Lookin better though. Bob: Penhall was quite a guy...lottsa cash and a good stick. Bought it in a twin going out of Big Bear or some high up mountan place. Eng quit and he tried to turn back. That never works it seems. Greenameyer still races, not unlimited but sport class. Hell, they go 300 plus. Only 3 days to go...cant wait. C uh....Steve
