I have wondered for a while what a true Tifosi would be, besides being a Ferrari fanatic. It's mentioned in the occasional Ferrari article, and occasionally there is something about them attached, for instance:
Tifosi and Porschephiles mix like oil and water...
    Everyone knows Tifosi hate Lambos...
...and it goes on, those are the only two things I remember, but my point is, I don't always agree with what some people say a "true" Tifosi is. Here is what I think a true tifosi is...

    1. As mentioned, a huge Ferrari fanatic.
    2. Someone who can be open minded and appreciate other things, whether it is other road cars or racing machinery.
    3. Appreciate the best and things similar to it, but have a certain tendancy to dislike anything believed to be inferior in a racing, or road car, category.
    4. Not be afraid to express his/her love of Scuderia Ferrari in any environment or situation.
    5. Very knowledgeable of Ferrari today, and Ferrari's past. However, will be happy to learn about other interests, like Lambo and Porsche.
    6. Very open to opportunities that will never be forgotten, and would prefer a day at an F1 race than an amusement park.
    7. Would rather look at cars than houses any day, assuming you are in the market for neither.

I have based these parameters on one thing...me!, and I pity the fool who comes up to me and tell me I'm not a Tifosi...

Thats funny, that reminds me of one day a few years ago. I had to go out to the humane society for some community service for school. Now I was only a sophomore or freshman in high school at the time, so my mom had to drive me, and the humane society is right across the highway from Portland International Raceway, and as I was leaving the HS, I could hear a very loud car out at the track, so I asked my mom if we could go check it out. She said sure, so we headed over there, and it was Jimmy Vasser and his Champ Car team doing a private testing session. I sat there on the grandstands from 10 am till about 4 pm watching them work on the car and a total of about two hours of track time.

I was so happy though, I was never, at any point bored, or antsy. Even just sitting there while they had their lunch break.

Anywho. Random story, but that one point you made reminded me of that and I figured I would share it.

I fully concur with your open minded approach. Brand rivalry makes sense on the track, not in the parking lot. Ok, a little rivalry is a lot of fun, but so is learning about the other cars.

I will be going to an unusual event this weekend called the Murphys Shakedown Tour. Its in the gold rush region of the California Sierras. The great thing about this event is that is open to 'interesting' cars. I will take my 275 - friends are bringing a XK120 and a couple Gullwings. The organizer typically drives a 700 ci 1907 Stearns (which is good for an honest 85 mph and climb hills without effort). There are Packards, also lots of Model A Fords, new and old hot rods, Lambos.... You get the picture. While they may not be tifusi, these guys are real enthusiasts and friends.
