I hope this isnt a repost. Are there no laws against something like this? Its sickening. Cliff Notes: Girl A (megan) was best friends with Girl B. After their friendship split, Girl B's parents make a myspace profile pretending to be a young "new to the neighborhood" kid "Josh" and adds/chats with Megan. The parents posted details of the private convo's to the community/other students (?). Megan (Girl A) commits suicide.
Thanks for posting...... A sad story and very sad that this little girl took her own life because of the acts of others. She should have known better. I did a little searching after reading your post. It seems the mother, Lorie, is the one most culpable. She also looks fat and ugly in some pictures I've seen. There is a ton of info on this story and a great deal of outrage. Though, I don't see anywhere where the dad was involved. Seems he might have gotten a raw deal. Being blamed and being married to this *****. Here is some info http://bluemerle.blogspot.com/2007/11/what-you-said-to-megan-meier.html
Megan Meier http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megan_Meier Lori Janine Drew = ***** http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2007/1120072megan1.html
this story gets me going everytime i hear about it. most of it is the facts surrounding it, c'mon, 2 adults bullying a 13 year old kid like that? and the fact that it happened so close to where i live, it's kind of surreal. i really think they need to have law reforms, so that the people that caused her suicide can get charged with something, last i heard at most they could get would be a misdemeanor.
This is so tragic. And even if there's no criminal penalty, I have a feeling a HUGE civil lawsuit is coming the way of the Drew household. Even a half-baked lawyer would be able to make sure the Meier family gets to pretty much own the Drew family for the rest of their lives. Not that it'll make up for anything, but it's a start.
I heard about this a few days ago and I think it is just a terrible thing. I feel bad for the girls parents and most of all for the girl herself. What a waste of a life. People can be mean and this young child didn't know what was going on .
If this was enough to make her kill herself, she'd have probably been dead within a couple of years no matter whether she was bullied or not.
I know it sounds very insensitive, but yes. I'm certainly not saying that this was a reasonable prank, but the girl had serious issues if she reacted this strongly to someone sending her online messages. Anyone that fragile is going to kill themselves eventually (at least without help).
sure.... EVERYONE gets called names. Not everyone hangs themselves over it. Who where wasnt called... fat, skinny, ugly, tall, short, an arsehole, a slut, a ***, a <insert slur here> when they were a kid?
Survival of the fittest? Still, pretty pathetic thing for the Drew family to do. Lowest of the low. Human nature at its worst.
I have to agree on that one. Teen suicide rates are high, and have been for some time. Think Shakespeare is from Mars? Hamlet: A kid brought home from school for the funeral of his dad and the marriage of his mom to his uncle. How old were school kids in Shakespeare's day? Mel Gibson was *way* too old to play Hamlet. A teenager who doesn't like his step parent. No connection to the modern world there, huh? And what is that "to be or not to be" about? Being a teenager sucks. Not everyone survives it. That's been going on for a long, long time. Part of growing up is finding what you have to live for. That can define what real thing you're willing to die for (as opposed to dying as a lack of any better idea). And that defines an adult. It's a tough process. But today's culture ignores that. People don't like to remember that the world is a hard place that kills 100% of its inhabitants, sooner or later. So when bad things happen, there has to be somebody to blame. And I think most of the fault is the commonly accepted delusion that if you isolate the kids from the big bad word, "they'll be fine". Ignoring the issue doesn't make it go away. But it does lead to something new: the attention starved (ignored) ones that take a few classmates with them on school shooting sprees.
even if she was on the verge of suicide, there is still absolutely no reason for these 2 adults to have acted in the manner that they did. regardless of her condition prior, there is little no doubt in my mind that this is what caused her to go over the edge. i, for one, hope the parents of this girl sue the other adults, i hope they never have to work another day in their lives, just my .02.
Just my $.02. The other adults are jackasses for sure, but the parents really screwed up too if their kid was that fragile.
you have a point there, we may never know for sure. it may be that the parent's of the girl were no angels, but still, when you have to choose between 2 evils, choose the lesser ones. regardless, it's still a terrible situation, and you can't help but feel bad for the parents, but most of all, you can't help but feel bad for the girl.
No charges: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,314620,00.html Although I think someone's getting their azz sued soon. That's not enough IMO. I don't have any kids, don't want them and am glad I don't have to put up with other parents and their BS. I see it with my neighbors and no thanks. RMX
I agree. People who commit suicide would probably do it someday anyway for any number of reasons. One of my best friends growing up committed suicide. He was crazy (like do anything you tell him crazy) and we kinda figured he would do it someday anyway. He picked the strangest time, everything was going great and he just killed himself because he got into a little bicker with his girlfriend. There's nothing anyone could do and it's not her fault he did it. He would have done it someday anyway. Same with this girl, if she killed herself over something like this then she had major depression problems for some reason and would have done it eventually. I wouldn't be so quick to blame the parents. It's not always their fault, sometimes there is nothing you can do. It's possible the girl was really messed up and they didn't notice, or maybe she hid it from her parents, or maybe they were trying to get her treatment but she refused, etc. So many possible scenarios that you can't be quick to pass judgment on the parents. Sometimes there isn't anything you can do, even medically.
I dont think they can get sued regardless (although they deserve to be in jail imo). Megan was 13, and i believe the min age requirement for Myspace is 18 (Although it is not stricktly imposed).
