    Freak accident. Since 1990, only 170 cases of injury, with 27 deaths. I'd bet most of the deaths were cases of girls or women with long hair getting sucked in. Compare that to the 10's or probably 100's of millions of people who have gone into swimming pools over the last 17 years, the numbers are statistically very small.

    I bet the injuries from diving into shallow pools outnumber accidents like this by many multiples. That's not to say "don't be careful", but the chances of something like this happening to your or someone in your family are slim to almost none. I'd be more concerned about the bacteria count in the water or the ride in the car to and from the country club.

    Wow. That is absolutely horrific. I feel very bad for the little girl.
