    Hello-

We are planning to visit Italy in mid December and I will have one day in Modena where we plan on visiting the Ferrari Factory. Any suggestions, recommendations and experiences are greatly appreciated. What should we look for, what should we do while visiting etc.

I plan on taking as many pictures as allowed to post upon my return.

The factory itself or the Museo and the tour?
    Have you booked already?

Firstly, most of the ferrari related activities are located in maranello, not modena so keep that in mind. That being said, here are some things to do in maranello: Eat at the ristorante cavallino across from the factory and ristorante Montana which is a little way down the road from the factory. Both are excellent. Visit the museum in Maranello and take the Ferrari factory tour (a shuttle tour through the factory grounds and the Fiorano circuit). Also, if you're willing to pay, go to one of the test drive places (push start is the one we used I think) and rent a ferrari for an hour and take a guided drive through the hills of Maranello. I did it in an F430 Spider and it is probably one of the highlights of my life. And if you have time, just wander throughout Maranello. It's a charming place and just a nice place to be, not to mention the generous amount of Ferraris you'll see driving around.

Yes we will be in Maranello and I am trying to plan the trip now, buy/book tickets etc. Thank you for the restaurants, we will definitely try them out. Can you actually see the factory from inside? The bus tour is what I found on the website but I was not sure what exactly you get to see on this tour. I will love to see actual cars being made and the museum. The test drive sounds fun but we will be with our kids (3 and 9) so might not be possible.

Unfortunately, the tour does not show the inside of the factory and the only way to actually go inside and see the cars would be if you own a ferrari, so the bus tour is the best you will find. Fortunately, the bus tour is guided and they give good information about each aspect of whatever you're looking at. As for the test drive, they do have Californias available which have a back seat and also a maserati granturismo which has a back seat, just to give you options. But ultimately do what's best for the youngsters. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

I was told there is/are month(s) the factory is closed, hence, no tour. Do you guys know which month? We are planning a trip either July or August next year.

Usually August is vacation time in Europe - so lots of places are closed. I think Ferrari shuts down for 3 weeks? I know the F-1 guys do.
If you have a sympathetic Ferrari dealer - they may be able to get you in, but usually they require a serial number.

The bus tour goes through the factory grounds; into Fiorano and around the track; racing departments grounds etc. it takes exactly one hour, and is worth it.( The actual factory tour takes 2.5 hours). The museum can take as long as you want....
between that, the museum, one of those two restaraunts, and walking around Maranello, that will be plenty with young children.
And you will all enjoy it.

    definitely worth it.
When I took part in May this year I could watch Treynors 599XX Evo waiting for some more laps at Fiorano.
At the racing department there were some carefully wrapped F1-engines (doors were open due to the high temps). Have fun and enjoy

I was planning on going as well. Maybe the last week in August and the first in September might be good. You know right before school starts. I’m going to ask the dealer see what they think. Thanks for the info.

Do you mean for 2014? Always very difficult for tours etc the week before (and after) the Italian GP....plus they might not book any the last week of August, after the break.
Either way remember the factory only books factory tours 6 weeks in advance, so try to be flexible with your travel dates....

Lol yeah next year. I'm really just in the planning stages. I didn't realize what you said about the factory closing down. I figured that I would start planning around Christmas time or so. Like I said I'm sure the dealer would have all this Info. Do they have someone in particular that plans these things.

Not sure who at your dealer; start with the GM, or call Ferrari Concierge, they were a big help to me (Jeff)

Contact your Ferrari dealership and they will put you in touch with the Ferrari concierge. You will need to provide the VIN number of your car in order to get an inside tour of the factory in Maranello. The tour is well worth the time. Enjoy! If you need further info PM me.

I am also thinking of going for a factory tour. I hope the guides speak good English, can anybody recommend a specific guide tour guide I should request?

Thanks guys will do. I'm about 90% sure that I'm going so when I get closer to booking I'll be sure to hit you guys up. Thanks for the info. I'm actually between cars now but I’m going to check some out next week. I’ll be sure to inquire with the dealer. Thanks again, really locking forward to it. If you can believe it, there’s a castle near the factory with my family’s name.

English speaking tours are on Wednesday, and I believe Friday. This may have changed since last year though....the bus tour was multi-lingual....the guide literally spoke non-stop for 1 hour in 3 different languages.....

Ok - I have a question. In Silver, I was told I have to schedule the tour through my local dealer and they would arrange it.

Do they arrange the tour based on the dates you'll be in Italy, or do you have to plan your trip around the dates of the tour? It's my 20th wedding anniversary next year, and I'd like to take my wife and kids to Europe.

They try to accommodate based on the dates you are in Italy; but its tough; as you can imagine space is limited; and Ferrari concierge has to work with Maranello on dates. I had two dates that I was flexible with, luckily one worked out. They only book tours about 6 weeks in advance, so try to plan your trip so that you will be in - or near - Maranello mid-week. (Tues-thurs); that will leave you a few days option (no tours on the weekend)
But I made sure that going to the factory would fit our itinerary (we started in Milan and moved south to Florence & Rome); its difficult planning a trip to Europe as it is; so start the process as early as possible. I loved planning ours, if you need help feel free t
    To ask....

After a few phone calls, emails to the dealer & Ferrari Concierge, I received the magic email! (The night before my birthday; good reason to get drunk!)
FYI - this is only a potion of it; I printed the whole thing and framed it.....the small profile photo is the guest pass from the tour

Thanks! If we do go, it will be at least 6 months from now, but point taken. We did Europe before the kids were born, planning was fun.

My wife will lead that should we do it, but I'll have to coordinate the factory tour. That's a must if we go.

I did an extensive thread on this topic, where I combined the collective knowledge of others and posted many pics. Search for it under my screen name and you should be able to find it easily. Oh, and I'm fairly certain the factory is closed most of August, so you should plan on July instead.
