This Dino "homage" or "re-creation" is the best explanation obvious to me of why Ferrari decided to discontinue the Dino in favor of the 308, partly because of upcoming U.S. bumper regulations which it plainly could not have satisfied. This car looks like the product of the rape of a 246 GT by a 308 GTB. Clearly, the 308 has the dominant genes, hence the bulk of the resultant vehicle. I think that this is worse in execution than the run-of-the-mill kit-car Dino, because it started with a legitimate Ferrari and turned it into a bastardized mess unlikely to fool many people, much less please them. It answers a question that has yet to be asked by anyone. I guess it's true that there's no accounting for taste. Fred

Makes you really appreciate the design of the 246...its so easy to get the proportions wrong.

LMAO, dont get your knickers in a twist just because someone has duplicated one of "your cars"

The car was not made to "fool" anyone.

I know this car and it was built using a damaged 308 by someone who admires the Dino looks.

I can say having been in this car and an original 246 that this car is far more user friendly being less cramped that a 246 and still gives the "Ferrari Experience", i personally prefer the look of the slightly longer wheel base.

I would consider it a good buy for someone who wants a weekend toy and it looks superb in the flesh, the only reason I did not buy it when it first came on the market because it is based on a GTBI with a 2v engine.

I will await your retort with bated breath because you seem to be the 246 oracle here and your obviously a lot smarter than most because you have two of these cars in your possession probably counting down the days when you can say you have "a million Dollars in your Garage"

    I LIKE IT!!!

Really, for what the guy was trying to accomplish, it's a nicely finished piece of work.

Must agree - to my eyes, it is quite lovely. Not a Dino, but still a pretty thing.

Don't know why folks get so upset - people butcher the crud out of 308s all the time to make a half-assed race car. If you're not into racing, what's wrong with saving a battered 308 & making something road worthy that is beautiful to YOU?

It's strange, I have only found owners of 246 Dinos to be so offended at these types of cars, I guess it says more about them really, the ultra wealthy GTO owner could not care a less about cars like these, not even the other end of the 355 market seems that bothered.

It always seems to be the Dino owners who have had their cars for years and have had a buzz off the fact they bought em cheap and have sat on them while they have increased in value and are very touchy about anything that could possibly take something away from their investment.

So is this Fred also offended when someone has a print of a famous painting they happen to love in their house? or is he more calculated and selective in his judgments.

Clearly the interior was left standard 308 and the car was not meant to try and dupe anyone.

I'm a Dino owner and I like it. I think that Fred simply doesn't like the car. You may be reading a little too much into one comment...

a couple pictures. 1st is the car in question. 2nd is the Kelmark abomination.

sometime in the future, someone will see this thread and not have a clue what we're talking about.

Is it a Dino? No, it is an abortion? No. And I am a former Dino owner. I think we sometimes get a little over the top in our protests about these. It is one hell of a lot nicer than the Kelmark car.

I think someone spent a bunch of money on the 308 conversion. The roof line is way wrong, but not a horrible job.

I don't think it's that bad at all. I don't think it's as pretty as a real 246, but it's not an unreasonable evolution. Makes you wonder what a truly modern 246 interpretation would look like. It would certainly be a hell of a lot bigger with all the height/pedestrian safety regs. Just look at a classic mini next to a new one...

I suppose in a technical sense the 458 is the evolution, but I mean a design that pays respect to the original's curves, small, lightweight chassis, and nimbleness. More Boxster than 911 in the Porsche world, for example.

I have previously posted pics of my Dino next to my 360. The 458 isn't smaller.

The Dino looks tiny compared to the 360.

When you look at the evolution of any car they generally get fatter and longer and heavier over time and cumulatively the changes are significant as you say.

    Dino vs 458:
    Width +23cm
    Length +29cm
    Wheelbase + 31cm
    Weight +405kg

    But:
    Top Speed: +56mph
    0-60mph: -3.7 secs
    BHP: +367BHP
    Power/Weight: +198 BHP/kg
