Willi Weber, manager of the Shumi Bros., has signed Swiss Natacha Gachnang.
She is a protégé of Niki Lauda, and a big talent in carsport.
Even Bernie is said to be charmed by Gachnang.
Will she be the first woman in F1?

No. Lella Lombardi, the Italian girl a few years ago (Amalfi? -- can't remember), and perhaps one other. I'm too lazy to do the proper research this morning.

There already are women in F1. They're called "pit babes".

I was at the Brands Hatch GP of 1980 where Desire tried to qualify. Guess who was a sponsor on her car? Penthouse...

Was a weird car btw: A carbon copy of the 1979 Alan Jones Williams, but branded as something else. You couldn't get away with that trick today anymore.

    I wasn't even born then;)
I did hear about a american woman who did some promo laps at the US GP in a Mclaren.
What's up with her, does she ride in America, or elsewhere?

Sarah Fisher was her name. She competed one or two times at Indianapolis 500. I don´t know where she is now, I think she is not in IRL anymore.

F1 needs women to be a true "global sport".

She drove the Mc Laren F1 at the USGP practice in 2002 for a few laps. She took it easy as it was a real car they needed afterwards. And she was many seconds off the pace. The press however adored her and had a field day.

Sarah has a hot/cold streek to her driving. Once in a while she/team gets the car right and she contends for the lead; most of the time, she is left in the back of the running order. She lead a couple of fistfulls of laps in a significant IRL race (if you can call them that) a couple of years ago, becomming the first woman to lead IRL race.

Desire Wilson drove a privately-entered Williams FW07 when she tried to qualify for a Grand Prix.............unfortunately it was a lower-spec car that was used for the British national F1 championship, and not competitive.

She raced for three years in the British F1 championship, and won one race, the only woman to ever win an F1 race of any kind. She also raced in a couple of non-championship F1 races against the top teams and did quite well, and after F1 did a lot of World championship and IMSA sportscar racing, and also had a total of eleven starts in CART races. She was good enough, like Lella Lombardi.

Yeah, she still does the odd historic race and demo, especially at Goodwood.

Nope. Even Ron Dennis defended them. They use the Ferrari engine and gearbox, but the monocoque is Sauber.

Minardi got close to cheating when they bought the former Arrows parts, but even they built their own chassis. Probably used the Arrows parts for their two seater.

A few years back I was at the Toronto Molson Indy (CART) there was an F3000 race afterwards, featuring a female driver who was also 'not to hard on the eyes', she actually did pretty good for most of the race, and who do you think was her principle sponsor, Barbie, her car was 100% hot pink.
