Well I have someone giving me a running commentary of the race, and it's total chaos. Loads of problems in the pits, people stalling, running off the track, colliding with one another. Team Libia just barrel rolled and his arms went flying out of the cockpit. Safety car out.
Separately, or do you mean flaling out of the cockpit, ie. still attached to his body? I still do not understand the concept of the A1? Who the fnck would race a car for your country, and then 'if your team so decides' get replaced by another driver for the second race ... fnck that. I race for myself, nobody else ... if I race at all! Pete
Good fun race. But I am not sure about the skill of the teams and many drivers, as quite a few of them were totally out of league with the rest.
This indicates the 'race for your country' flaw. How can you honestly expect every country in the world to have the required level of motorsport infrastructure, etc. to produce drivers of calibre?. Thus some are risking top drivers ... rediculous and embarrassing for the whole concept if the racing gets an image of 'fun'. Pete
It was Lebanon and that was 2 of the most funniest Motorsport things I seen in awhile. Besides getting capped and his visor opening when upside down. Less than 30secs later the Medical car almost collects an A1 car when it cuts infront of it!!
I hope it catches on. Let's remember guys this is the 1st ever race. Of course there are going to be a lot of problems and stupid mistakes at first. But I'm sure they'll get ironed out. I read the commentary on pitpass and it sounded like there was a lot of action and a lot of close racing. I just hope a network in Canada will air it. I thought for sure TSN would air it considering there is a Canadian team.
Very slick set up, well organised and funded. The racing was competitive , if a little over enthusiastic at times Very refreshing to see overtaking back in vogue. The A1 cars have a boost button that adds 50 HP!
Glad to see the driver walked away from the flip. I didn't watch the race but read some commentary about it on pitpass. Very exciting stuff. You can see pictures of, the Lebanese car flipping at http://www.a1teamlib.com (click on the pictures tab).
I watched a replay of this over the weekend and quite enjoyed it. A few things that really concerned me though to do with driving standards, and probably caused by some countries running drivers that do not have enough experience ... an example: a lapped car NOT letting a car lapping him passed. Now this is crazy and I watched and saw a car that had been lapped twice hold a car that was around 10th (and yes trying to lap him) up for well over 10 laps. Worse still the 3rd and 4th (New Zealand!) cars were held up behind this very poor driving. This needs to stop and the driver and team heavily penalised and give a fncken motor racing rule book . I actually enjoyed it so much I am thinking of going to the Sydney, Eastern Creek round! Pete
I watched the race on the A1GP.com site and I have to say it was very entertaining (although there was no commentary, it was a raw feed). A lot of close racing some good passes. I was waiting in anticipation for the part were the Lebanese car was trying to pass the Italian car. I was hoping that it was the Italian's fault, but it ended up being the Lebanese's fault. He cut in, leaving the Italian car with no room. You can clearly see the good driver(s) compared to the not so good one(s). The gap that the Brazilian (Nelson Piquet Jr.) pulled on the 2nd place was amazing.
