AAC 815 race history

Only race I have heard for for these cars was 1940 MM, for which they were specifically constructed. Both DNF as I recall.

Racing came to a halt shortly thearafter due to WW2.

 

What you need is the book "Genesis of Ferrari 815" by F Verisco. There is one available at T E Warth. This will give you what you want to know and then some. just one man's opinion tongascrew

 

Maybe you should contact the present owner of the only surviving chassis.
I had a brief chat with him during a Mille Mgilia some years ago and it seems that he knows a lot of informations about Auto Avio Costruzioni.

Again, as per my cryptic post in another thread mentioning these two cars, "the only surviving chassis" is not consistent with the information I have.

Well, one real and one recreation. Yes, that's certainly the consensus...

 

The Ferrari recreation is a different car: 125 replica.

Thanks for posting that! I can't quite see enough of the chassis to see any similarity with the 125S and 166, if any exist (though it does look significantly different). Can anyone sum up any technical overlap between this and the later (first) Ferraris? Perhaps a link to historical or other info on the 815?

There's really not much technical overlap.....

The 815 was two four cylinder blocks mated end to end and recast as one, using two 4 cylinder heads, IIRC and the body styling was pretty much a dead end.....

 

I guess you can see the later Barchetta design cues in there, if you squint a little...LOL!

The body styling is actually derivative of a handful of pre-war Touring-bodied 6C Alfa-Romeo Tipo 256, versus being any kind of a predecessor to something else.

From memory this is the one survivor from the 2 cars that ran the 1940 Gran Premio Brescia delle Mille Miglia, usually referred as 1940 MM but run on a closed road circuit, after the 1938 deadly accident ( there was no 1939 MM) . Belongs to Righini collection. No one knows exactly what happened to the second car and there are even rumors there might have been a 3 chassis..

 

Seeing that the 815 and the 166 Barchetta were both designed by Touring then I guess there could be some similarities?
