I was driving around Long Island Monday and spotted this Mondial coupe in a barb wired lot; it looks like it has been sitting a long time. There was nobody around that I could talk to, but there was a sign on the fence that said 'Display Area A-1 Auto Sales'. This was in Glen Cove, NY.
Good luck - hope it finds a home...

Wow! Neat find. But boy oh boy what a mess for restoration that would be... would
have to get it for just a couple grand to make it worth it. On the other hand, there will
never be another one made so I hope that someone eventually will restore it, even if
it means being way upside down.

    Thanks for posting the pix!

As mentioned above, thanks for the pix. Interesting to see the missing strakes on the side.

Up in yankeeland, I'm sure it's rotted out underneath too. :(

If you get more info, let us know. Maybe someone will rescue it. Didn't Mark claim a TR driveline will fit in those? :D :D

I probably won't be by there again as it's on the exact opposite end of the state from me. Just thought I'd pass it along for someone; personally I hope someone with good DIY skills buys it cheap and restores it as a fun daily driver. It looks like it may have had an engine fire, but it's hard to tell based on the body color....

Without knowing a LOT more than what we see, I wouldnt burn the fuel to drive to go get it from MN unless I could have it for free. It appears to have light surface rust all over the body, even the roof, possibly a flood car. Other than the physical engine and gearbox castings, the suspension pieces and the glass, the rest could be complete scrap. Thats provided of course that you could even get the engine apart. If it was dunked in salt water and then sat for years, that may be nigh impossible. While I love these cars and hate to see any destroyed, this one is so upside down its not even funny.

The neat part is how non-descript it is. The color and condition is so bland and the body style so neutral (by todays standards) it probably goes completely unnoticed by everyone except for the most rabid Tifosi, those who can spot a Ferrari from a 1/2 mile with no more in sight than an outside mirror.

I drove past a nearby Corvette shop one day about two years ago, was probably rolling 45 mph or so. I peered in through the open garage door into the totally darkened shop as I flew past, maybe got a nano-second glimpse of the back end of a car, and something made me stop and think. I hung a Louie and drove back, sure whatever it was I saw was just another old Corvette. I found a grey metalic 275 GTB4 about 60 feet inside the door. Made my day, and my wife never questiones me anymore when I do a 180 to look at something

Oh I didnt mean it that way! I just meant that the light film of rust combined with the faded out color, oxidized rubber, filthy glass.....from a distance the average Joe, even many car nuts, probably wouldnt notice it for what it really was.

    Or maybe "patina", lol

Its just about the same color as the rusty steel cover on that pickup truck. How stupid. That car didnt start rusting last month, thats been going on for a while. Wonder what the sad story is.

I grew up on LI, and I can guarantee you that Tillman hit the nail on the head - it's a rust bucket. Glen Clove's proximity to the ocean + LI road salt + uncovered for who knows how long = rotted car. Sad, but most likely a parts car at this point.

There is an 86 3.2 with salvage title though, for 15.5k on Ebay. This is a parts car.
