    Hi Guys,

Can any reader post information OR photos on the 3 Abarth SE 027 Sports Racing Cars (chassis #s 1 - 2 - 3) that were in the USA in the late 1970s,

    Chassis #s 1 & 2 are currently in Europe.

    Chassis #3 is in Australia.

    Thanks

    David - Melbourne.

Do you have "Abarth, the man, the machines"?
On pages 400-3 it says they were 2 liter sports racers and were the direct predecessor
of the Abarth-Oscella PA1 that followed and there are a few photos and some specs.

Or did you want info on those particular chassis specifically?

    Jim

    Thanks Jim,

Yes I have the books on Abarth etc, I was chasing the racing history of these 3 cars when they were in the USA, my particular car Chassis # 3 was bought into the USA by Ferrari of San Franscisco & owned by Paul Newman - Gene Hackman - Clint Eastwood, I am trying to get more information on the cars when they were in the USA, I bought it from the Alfred Cosentino collection USA, Thanks again Jim

I worked on the 027 for Norbert McNamara (sorry, I don't remember the ser #) which has the dog leg right side rear view mirror made by John? Patients at his shop in Pleasanton, CA. in the mid 80s.
It had approx 15% leakdown in #1 so we pulled the head, Norm found a set of rings but had to have them ground down to fit the lands, cleaned up the bore & reassembled. The original Magneti Morelli starter was marginal at best so Stan Peterson took a Chrysler starter, rewired it to turn in the poisite direction, modified the nose & connected it to the original starter drive shaft which snapped the end off at Sebring when the engine kicked back while cranking. Stan later made another shaft. Just for fun I stamped ABARTH across the back of the starter.
We had no test time before Sebring so it was not running properly, Norm decided not to put it on track.
Norm & wife Sabra were great people, after he retired my wife & i would stay at their home in Waterford, CA. working on many of his cars. With a smile on his face he told me he got his first speeding ticket in the ATS 2500 GT just down the road from the house.
Might have gotten a little off topic but I couldn't help it, I miss both, very good people.
