Just a reminder the Abbotsford Airshow is coming up. Its one of the best shows on the west coast. Well worth the trip up from Portland or Seattle!

I'll be doing the less busy Friday show. I do the VIP tickets with my father. We've been going since at least 78. The airport is only 5 miles from my house. Do get some planes from the show over my house during the week of the show.

VIP is a giant tent, table seating, unlimited drinks, everything from orange juice, pop, beer and wine. Breakfast and BBQ lunch. Best way to see the show.

Well my house is about 5miles from the airport. The airspace above and around my house is designated as practice airspace by transport Canada. Private pilots need to practice spins as well as stalls for a license. Not unusual to see planes doing spins near my house, same with stalls and even full out aerobatics (that's pronounced arrow==batics. pet peeve is people saying acro). Anyway, tonight's practice above my house was a P-51 mustang and F-15 practicing formation flying. What a sight and sound!!! Too far away for pictures.

Far cry from my first air show experience there in 1966 . I saw it grow exponentially every year for 6 years. So many good memories. So many good friends. Many gone now.

Wow long time.... Its a good show. Started going in 78 or so, 6 or 7 years old. Can still remember it from back then. The best years all happened in the 80's. The Russians showed Mig 29's there in 86. First time shown in the west. Reagan made sure everything available in America showed up. F14 to SR-71.

At the Abbotsford shows I went to in the '80s and '90s, I saw the An-74, An-124, An-225, MiG-29, MiG-31 and Su-27, along with the SR-71, CF-101, CF-104, the Patrouille de France, the CWH's Lancaster, the Nimrod, and of course the Vulcan, to me the signature aircraft of the Abbotsford airshows.

I remember all of those. The last 10 years they have started to do commercial flights out of Abbotsford, built a large terminal. Entrance of the airport has a CF-101 on a pole. Reminds me of the airshow in the 70's.

Airshow was good. Not as many American military again. Ever since the sequester the American military presence has been non existent to one or two aircraft. F22 was supposed to be here, but instead it was an F15. I don't see why the Navy was there with an F18, Canada had one there as well. No Thunderbirds or Blue Angels this year, usually one or the other displays, miss either.

Forgot to ask what my Father paid for tickets. Think $140 each. Best way to see the airshow, private seating, shade tent, lots of drinks and snacks, etc. Supposed to be a meet the performers deal, but that never seems to happen.
