Hi Folks, While I know how much is it worth questions are asked to the point of wanting to make you barf, Id really like to get a real time read today from the owners that I think are the best judge- right here on Fchat. 1st off, I currently own a 2005 F430 F1. Love it, drive it, purchased under the lifes too short not to rules. Im about to buy a 1987 328 GTS. Its the car that made me love cars as kid in high school (to be fair- it was probably the 308). This is a 2 owner car, completely refreshed, including repaint and new leather. It has records back to day one and has just been completely serviced by Ferrari dealer selling it to me. Just over 50k miles. Red/Tan. The only investment value is the pleasure I get from owning and driving it and Id rather have repainted and great looking over rock chips and completely original. That said, I also would like to know what you think the non-emotional, objective value of the car I described is in today's market. Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Wouldn't be worth over $40k to me though I'm sure they're asking more than that. And I doubt I could get $40k for my car.
If you have 3+ years remaining on the cam belts, I would guess it would be a $40k-$42K car. If you are looking at belts or a major in less than 2 years, I would trim $3 off the price. Ferrari dealers won't want to sell a car that isn't in good shape to drive and enjoy. So, expect to pay a bit more for their service and their attention to getting the car ready for sale. Frankly, I never could see why anyone would quible over a few thousand dollars for a car they liked. You would spend much more than that looking for another one and that one may have more issues than this one. $40K is probably a fair price.
Yeah, $40k. That's what I paid in 2010. '88, complete service history, excellent original condition, 35k miles+\-
before NNO asks, what is the VIN? I have an 87 red/tan with 58,000 miles, full records since day one, all tools and books, leathers totally redone and A-1 condition throughout. Cars runs strong and true, New RE-11s. I don't think I'd ever sell it (previous owner has right of first refusal anyway) but I think your car (depending on next major and if it has no stories) could be purchased for $38- 42,000.
40K is the price. If I were buying from a private party- I agree that it would be in the 35-38k range. I'm willing to pay more knowing it is coming directly from a Ferrari dealer with a complete service and belts just done. And- it's probably good to spend a little money with the people taking care of my 430. I'm happy to hear I was in the ballpark of fair. Thanks
i just bought an 86 with 28K for under 40.....private seller i am third owner....all records tools light....all original CA car. SW
Dealer asking price is typically higher, but on the other hand, YOU are a loyal customer. Use that as a bargaining tool. They should be able come down (some) on the price - 38k is not unreasonable. They'll be servicing 2 cars from you in the future. Good luck.
Good point. Fully serviced, from a reputable dealer, $40K would be expected. Doesn't mean you can't haggle though.
I'd also say that 40k is a little high, but then it's coming from a dealer so it should be about right. Is it red/tan or some off-color? Do a compression test/PPI before purchase, somewhere else, for a second opinion. Then buy it! But just be aware that while it may look good, it's no F430 and I think you might be disappointed in the performance department. Ace
It's red/tan. The really attractive piece is that the dealer has the whole history, all maint records, and they just did the full service a couple weeks ago in prep to sell. My concern is really the repaint and redone interior. I'd prefere it look new as it does now over original... but the next person might care, and I want to factor that into my price. Seems 40k is fair. No- it's not a 430, but like many of you here I enjoy that extra long moment in the garage just looking at the artwork.
Well if it's not going anywhere (at least not very often), then you should look for the lowest mileage can you can find so you can preserve the "originality". I think an 89 would be your best bet. Most of those have been put away for safe keeping and are the most valuable. Ace
I'd take a 328 over an out-of-warranty F430 any day. Better looks, better build quality, more usable performance, better value retention, no electronic nannies, etc. 328's a keeper. F430 is a great car to borrow or lease, but in many ways it's a future recyclable. I would look for a lower mileage car in the $40K-$50K range. There are a lot of lower mileage 328s out there in red. Be aware that Ferrari interiors are fragile, so it's going to be hard to get a "like new" interior in a 328 in the <$50K range. Also, 20K miles is 5 or more years of driving for most guys, so for not much additional cash a 30K-mile car may be better value. Good luck.
Agreed. He is going to like his 430 a whole lot less when he sees how bloated it looks in the garage next to his 328. My gut (and experience) tell me that his eyes will stare a lot more at the 328 when he enters the room too. Inside, the difference in size is, for some reason accentuated.
In defense of my 430... it's a pretty darn nice car in it's own respects. I let loose of my corvetts (C4 and C5 - and also great cars) to get it. I've never enjoyed anything as much as hitting the start button and seeing that engine in the rear view mirror... when I'm not moving forward. I bought the car this morning and I'm thrilled to finally own a 328. I was wrong about the miles- it has 45k (I've looked at three of these cars in the last few months). Thanks again for the input. Now I can split my time between the 308/328 and 360/430 rooms on Fchat.
Congratulations!! And of course we want pictures! 328's are cars to keep. Six years after, I still go "wow" when I enter the garage. Soooo sexy
Update- it came home yesterday! My 430 was in to have the exhaust manifolds replaced (warranty), so both were delivered at the same time. Pretty cool to have the Ferrari Transporter come down the street. The 328 is far better than I expected. It looks to have had a complete restoration- the interior is almost completely new(complete interior from Re-Originals), as well as body rubber, trim, etc. Sad part... winter in MN, so it is parked for another 2 months. Congrats on the purchase! And don't listen to the guys that put down the 430. They are a wonderful car and you will never get tired of driving it, I know I have a 328 and 430 as well. They are like having 2 children, completely different from each other and both capable of trying your patience but you love them both anyways!
Suspect you got a nice and fresh example. Many great miles ahead and nothing to do but polish and drive!!!! Well done.
