The AC compressor and clutch for my 512BBi have failed and need to be either rebuilt or replaced with an OEM unit. The car is 100% stock, and I want to keep it that way.

I'm having trouble finding someone capable who can rebuild these units, and there do not appear to be any OEM units currently available on the parts market. Can anyone provide information regarding a competent rebuilder or a source for an OEM unit?

    Thanks!

Except for a pulley bearing I m unaware of anyone rebuilding clutches. Is it bad? Beyond the bearing if it needs help you might get in touch with O.D.D. Parts in Sonoma CA.and talk to them. First I'd run it by Austin Rebuilders and see their response.

As for the compressor Austin Rebuilders in Austin Texas has done a number of other types of compressors for me.

You might also contact Dick Fritz in Connecticut. He has a lot of Boxer parts squirreled away. He may have a complete unit. 203-312-4440

Thank you Rifledriver. I will try ODD and Austin.

I did speak to Dick Fritz, and he is in the same boat as I am. So we are both on a search and will let one another know.

    Hi Steven,
I have an 82' BBI that was previously concours judged by Dick Fritz. Great guy who shared his BB knowledge with dignity and respect even to DIY'ers such as myself which made participating fun. Unfortunatly from what I hear, he is no longer judging BB's.

I have the original AC compresser on my car which is performing nicely even in our brutal summer months. I do have a domestic rebuild source in my scrapbook that I will share with you via private IM. I'll put something together this afternoon. Please share it with Dick.
    Good luck.
    Dave

Try Polar Air in ft Lauderdale FL, speak to Gretchen 954-463-6610, she rebuilt the compressor for my 3.2 mondial, Tim Stanford, who installed it as part of my major service, was very pleased with the work.
