On my 360, the ac compressor made a metallic whining noise at idle. Turn the ac off, and it goes away. It was especially hot in FL that day, and the next time I drove the car, it did not make the noise. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Was the AC cooling okay? I'm thinking the clutch? Do you think if the belt was slipping it could have made the noise? Actually, I have experienced that in other cars and it seemed to be a combination of compressor operating and freon compression during hot days. I've never had a failure of a clutch.

The ac was cooling well, and there wasn't any belt slippage. It was just a constant metallic sound; not very loud, but definitely noticeable.

Did the condenser, by any chance take a wee hit? Do have it inspected with the car on a ramp or lift. If the tube has got pinched or squeezed, it could make that sound even for a while after the AC is switched off.
