My compressor has suddenly decided to stop working. No signal at all to the compressor. I put a multi-meter from the electrical lead to ground and I get no voltage at all when the switch is turned on. It's like the LP cut off switch won't come on. If it was the exp. valve I'd have cold air at first then nothing. Or the compressor should at least cycle on/off.

The system has pressure and no leaks. It was blowing cold last weekend, now warm air. I'll verify with better guages that the system has pressure (I have trouble believing a "slow leak" developed and not it's all gone in a few days when the system's been tight for almost a year now).

Is there a fuse somewhere in the system that could be bad?

There will be a ~25A fuse somewhere in the left hand fusebox per your OM (but that really hasn't come up as much of a 308 trouble area before).

If the fuse itself seems OK, make a voltage measurements between either end of the fuse and ground should be +12V.

If the fuse voltage checks OK, move out to the wires at the high & low switches at the dryer to confirm/deny +12V is present on at least 1 terminal (the CN orange/black wire IIRC) when you command "on" (although, if your refrigerant pressure is OK, all the wire terminals at the high & low pressure switch would measure +12V relative to ground when "on").

The fuses have voltage (I actually looked earlier but missed the italian word for "condisionia" or whatever it is as being part of the AC - but the owners manual was in English).

How do I check the high/low switch? The switch is hard wired into the line so I can't disconnect it, nor find an exposed terminal, so to speak, to touch a multi-meter lead onto.

I can't recall the configuration on my ex-308, but the schematics show separate high and low pressure switches with male/female spade terminals (if you've got a combination high/low switch it must be a modern replacement or something F updated along the way). Not having a place to measure seems odd though, but if you get desparate you can pierce the wire insulation (and conductors) with the sewing straight pin and then measure to the pin or just bare a small wire length for measurement. For a test you could electrically jumper the high/low switch(es) closed and see if the compressor did come "on" if you switched the system "on" briefly -- would indicate that all of the other associated electrics are OK, and either the high/low switch is bad or the refrigerant pressure is out-of-bounds.

Go to the receiver/dryer in the front near the brake fluide bottle. You will see 2 wires going to the plumbing , this is the low pressure switch. Unplug it and short out the wires to each other. If the compressor comes on then the switch is bad.

I can't unplug it. It's screwed into the line and there are two wires, with a boot over them, going into that switch. If I unscrew it, the 134 will come out.

I've verfied I have good pressure on both sides (~35psi) but can't check the high side while "on" b/c the compressor won't come on. THe system has 134 in it.

    This is puzzling.

I jumpered it out, compressor comes on

    Low side is 12psi
    High side is 55 psi

It's low. That sucks b/c that means something leaks!!! ****!

    Well.....i found the leak....

I charged it with one can, compressor comes on, things are blowing cold but not real cold...

    Check pressures

    Low 45psi
    High 180 psi

hook up the second can, start to charge it, compressor cycles and...hey, what's all that smoke....that looks like r134 evaporating...the low pressure line right above the gas tank burst...

Now I get to look forward to replacing those AC lines...joy.

I'm sitting here typing this listening to my ac system leak down...this is fun...and it's like 95deg with a heat index of 101...

I'd cry if I weren't laughing so hard.....right at the start of summer too.....

I'd noticed a small "spot" on one of the vapor lines right above the gas tank and now I know what that oily spot was....a leak in the A/C system....now it's a lot bigger
