My 1st thought would be you are low on freon so the low pressure switch on the receiver/drier will not let the compressor clutch engage. You need to check the pressure (use a gage on the low pressure line) in the system. Are you still with R12 or are you using R134a freon? I would have this checked 1st and then go from there. Good luck

Hey capn, tried to send you a pm, but couldnt, so....

I have the same thing going on with another car of mine, coincidentally!!!

yesterday, I noticed no cold blowing, then clutch barely spinning, while pulley going fast, of course. Then, I heard a strange sound, like metal grinding, etc....a bad sign. I will try to get back to you if'n I learn whats going on.

Im thinking it is a dead comp.

Thanks for the info Joe,no metal grinding sound.I have noticed the low pressure hose on top of compressor might have loosened up a tad,I can wiggle the metal tube connected to the flang nut on top of the compressor. The flange nut is as tight as I can get but I can still wiggle tube.I checked my parts manual could not find a o-ring looks like I might have to replace the hose.I'll keep you informed.

    Harry,

That "metal tube", I think youre talking about the aluminum end BEFORE it crimps onto the black barrier hose. Anyway, that should NOT be loose. Im sure all your freon is gone now. On the O rings bit, watch out that there are so many o rings out there, you must get the right one. Then wet it with whatever oil is in the system (ester is a good bet, if you dont know for sure).

On the grinding, you dont necessarily need to hear it....you can have the tiniest bits/shards break off, then they will get into your expansion valve.

Hey, good luck, man. (wish me luck too, with my similar problem....LOL)
