AC thermo switch pic.

I changed my Condenser Fan and thre pos linen goes true a thermo switch that is att.to one of the AC lines (left side in pic) when dos it come on.the new motor works on a bench test but how do I test it in the Car,dos the motor have to be running?it is very cold where I am.
