I am sending my AC vents to get them refinished and the foam that closes the vent is pretty deteriorated.

Has anyone found a good solution to replace it?

I have tried a bunch of stuff and nothing seems to work great. The good thing is when it closes, it shuts about 95% anyway without the foam.

Diegolrz, you can purchase better specification foam material. For example, neoprene or viton foam comes in adhesive coated foam seal strip or sheet. Viton is extremely resistant to a lot of environments that AC vents will never see, but neoprene could be a good choice for simply extending foam seal life. Look at vendor catalogs such as McMaster-Carr or Grainger. The point is to use material that can handle the environment and extend foam seal aging. I don't know from your pics whether the foam is applied just around the perimeter of the vent plate as a seal strip or across the entire back of the vent plate, or what the thickness is. The vendor websites will help. Worth a shot. EDoug

I will take one apart once they come back from refinishing and figure out how they are assembled. I had McMaster in mind to find something useful to replace it with and using neoprene or viton makes a lot of sense! I am sure the point of the foam and the vent design is to avoid closing it 100% to prevent back pressure if all vents are closed.

I will report back what I come up with. Thanks!
