On one of my side vents, the side to side adjust piece was pushed in and then fell off. It doesn't look broken, just have to push/snap in the parts and the little arm that holds the blades in the vent. However, in order to get to them, I have to remove this part of the vent, or pull off the back with the tube on it, but neither wants to cooperate. Anyone know how to take the vent apart further so I can fix this, plus might make the cleaning process easier.

Secondly, as I plan to use oven clean, what do I do for the white paint markings for the dial and the open and closed markings?

Can't speak for the first problem, but you'll either need to repaint the little white markings or live without them. I wrestled with this decision for weeks - even months - and finally decided screw it, the markings are history.

There is a tab that is in the front edge of the vent at the top that you have to depress with a small screwdriver to release the vent. My driver's vent has the same problem, I have never gotten around to fixing it. When I do I wil post the pics. See Nodoubt's home page or www.the348.com if ND's page is down.

Are you sure that is not just the tab to take it off the dash? Thats the only tab I see at the top of the vent. Just so we are all clear, its already out the car. I want to either take the tube part off front the back, or take the part of the cent that moves up and down out, then I just have to snap the acjuster knob and arm back in from the back.

Husker, I think your right about the markings, rather have no markings then gooey crap.

The part that you want to snap back in is the "grill" piece, correct? (with the louvers). I don't think you have to take anything else apart to snap that back in - just snap it back in and be ginger with it. I had to do the same thing on my right vent.

    No, and no.

The picture is the center vent, mine is the passenger corner grill, and it has a tube that comes down in the back of it as you all know. What I want to snap back in is not the entire moving vent in side the vent "frame", I wish it was removed actually. Let me explain again:

1)The entire unit is out of the car.
    2) The little nob that moves the fins left or right was pushed in before I removed the entire vent assembly.
    3) When I took it out of the car, this little nob fell out, and luckily NOT down into the dash. This is not the nob that opens or closes the vent, it’s the one that direct the direction of the air, the only other nob on it.
    4) I want to put it back on, but it snaps not only to the vent but a horizontal piece that moved the 3 fins left or right. In order to do this, I have to get to the back of the vent to connect the nob to this piece behind/inside the vent. What is stopping me is on the back of the vent is the tube that doesn’t want to come off, and from the front the vent doesn’t want to come out of the frame. If I could get in there, I could put this back. This little now is also the center vertical vent and has to be connected to the left and right one next to it from the inside.
