I have completed my 328 timing belt/tensioner bearing change as well as gasket, seal replacements and new ignition wires. I have yet to start the car due to this question.

I have all the belts back on but am curious as to what the appropriate tension is for each. I have the specs from the owner's manual and have read through the threads I could find using the search method.

I am curious as to gauging the appropriate belt tension without using a gauge. I have a case of the three little bears. My AC belt appears to be extremely tight and the alternator appears loose, while the WP belt appears to be just right. Is there a manner, by deflection or other means, to know these belts are within the appropriate specs?

    dan,
go to your local napa and purchase a belt gage. mine was $17.
it works well on the wp and alt. forget the a/c. what a nuisance.

    Thanks Bill,

I ended up purchasing one online as my local Napa stores didn't have it stock. In the meantime I tensioned them by feel and fired the car up, no issues. I will check the tension once the gauge arrives.

I still have to adjust the deck lid as it isn't lining up quite right. That has been the biggest pain thus far.

I also purchased a new battery. Hopefully no more major maintenance issues for 5 more years.

while i'm glad you purchased a belt gage, don't relent on the maintenance.

what else better do you have to do when the snow is piling around the garage door?

i know you don't get snow (unless al gore is wrong) but i think you get the message.
