Accelerator Pedal from Superformance.

I purchased the drilled aluminum pedals from Superformance for my 1977 308GTB USA Model recently. I was successful in installing the clutch and brake pedals, as they bolt on over the existing pedals once the rubber pedal covers are removed. However, the new accelerator pedal does not fit flush over the existing accelerator pedal, thus I'm thinking the original pedal needs to be removed, not simply bolting on the new pedal over the original pedal.

Has anyone purchased this kit from Superformance, and if so, how did you install your accelerator pedal?
