accumulator plumbing question

    While troubleshooting a fuel leak at the fuel pump ,I noticed the bypass line was missing off the accumulator.
    I believe it should be going to the top of the fuel tank? I dont see where it should lead. Is it back by the fuel filler neck? And what would be performance ramifications for it being disconnected?

    It's not a bypass line -- it's an air vent on the (normally) "dry" side of the Accumulator diaphragm. On US cars, it is plumbed back to the top of the fuel tank so that liquid fuel returns to the tank if the diaphragm in the Accumulator fails. On euro cars, it's just left open to the atmosphere (so liquid fuel runs out onto the ground if the diaphragm fails). If yours is a 1985 US version 308B/S, the return line, item 29, is shown in this SPC figure:
