I have noticed a lot of 1984 and 1985 Mondials being sales listed with 3.2 liter engines. When questioned the sellers often say the VIN check spits that out. I checked samples with both CarFax and Autocheck and sure enough they have been reporting those years as having the 3.2 V8.

    I notified them both.

Autocheck was very polite and took the info seriously including a guide to interpreting Ferrari VINs.They are doing an investigation.

CarFax basically told me (to pound sand) they were right because of the position of an "A" in the VIN. CarFax was wrong because that A in the 8th position simply meant LHD for the USA market. It's the "U" in the fourth position of the VIN means the 3.0 liter V8 (2927cc)

Just telling you all this in case you have a 1984 or 1985 Mondial and can do a sample check with either provider.

Interesting that CF didn't even want to listen though - The arrogance of the #1?.....

I don't trust them. A car I used to own from day one listed that is was a lease at one point and sold at auction AFTER I already owned it....

    Good to know.

    Will use AutoCheck over CarFax.

Hey, they may make some mistakes, but think about how it was before these two ever existed.

Then according to AutoCheck my '84 is really a 3.2L and I thought was just a 3L.

I was told if one did not file a proper police report (DUI) & have the wreck repaired old school at good old boy body shop, nothing will show up on CarFax. The worst of the worst. Yo, those boys do good work Tuesday-Thursday & prefer cash. Scary.

FWIW here's a pic of my friends X5. Some lady ran a stop sign and he t-boned her. Everyone was okay.

It was repaired by the BMW dealership at a cost of just over $20,000. Has not shown up on carfax after 2 years.

I know of a situation involving a 355 with completely clean CF report that was repaired by an authorized Ferrari dealer after a moderate front-end collision. Further, the accident was reported to insurance and police report was taken. I say don't trust 'em, PERIOD!
