I'm still researching laptops but am wondering if anyone has any experience with this netbook. Is it in fact any good and what is it best used as? I will be off to college within the next two months and will be majoring in mechanical engineering so I want a laptop that will be able to cope with whatever that brings for it.

So is this computer actually worth to buy or is it just a pretty item. Are there any others out there that would better suit a college student? I of course want a stable laptop to support all the normal things a college student will use his laptop for. Thanks as always

Typically netbooks are meant for entertainment purposes or low tech programs. If you are doing anything requiring intense graphics or calculations this may not cut it. Your typical writing reports, surfing the net, and similar routine tasks will be ok.

Also netbooks, this one included, don't have cd (dvd/blu-ray) drives...might be a problem

Being a MechE you might be required to do some CAD stuff, 3d modeling, etc...so I wouldn't recommend this. You can find a similar priced laptops that are better. Check you're school's website and see if they have any recommendations for minimum requirements or if they are offering one and try to match the specs.

There are some good deals out there for Father's day.
