A question for the experts: what are the actual differences between the two motors? What about supporting/ancillary systems (intake, exhaust, tuning, etc)?

I've done a bit of digging here, but all I can find are mentions of 599's having "detuned" Enzo motors. Wondering what the technical differences are and if anybody here can clarify.

    Thanks,
    Joe

Steel rods instead of titanium, more restrictive exhaust, different Motronic ECUs with different ignition/injection settings, although both the Enzo and early 599 have Motronic 7.1.1, different camshafts, etc. You can check further by comparing parts in the parts catalogs.

Interestingly, the GTB has a 8400 rpm redline vs the Enzo's 8200.

You are amazing Taz and I'll just bet that there is someone out there right now thinking: "Hmmm, maybe I should upgrade the rods in my 599 to titanium?"

Bob- Could be the same. All I know is the part numbers are different. On many similar engines, like the Type F133E, F133F, and F133G engines for the 575M, 612, and Superamerica, they use the exact same camshaft profiles, just advanced a bit in timing for the later engines. That gives some of them different part numbers.

The 550 (I think also the 575) had rods in titanium. Why did they change to steel rods in the 599 ?

Daniel- The 550 has titanium rods and when ProDrive built the race versions, the OEM titanium rods failed, so they went to steel and Ferrari carried that over to the 575M, which also has steel rods. Plus they are cheaper.

Nothing wrong with Enzo rods, but steel is cheaper and tougher so they put those in the 599.
