DISCLAIMER: I'm not trying to show off, I'm not lying, I'm not bragging, I just want info on the car and experience.

Ok, I'm not buying one within an immediate time frame, but soon enough I'll be
going for it, might as well ask this now and make discussion.

Some questions are practical, some questions I want to know just so I know what to expect.

I guess exotic dealerships fall under a different category than normal ones, should one even bother to 'haggle' or negotiate the price down? I'm asking because I'm ASSuming that people who buy these cars have money and the dealership knows that so they'd tell a person to hit the road. Again, never bought an exotic before so educate me!

Read the site for a while and I guess there is no point in getting a new one, since the value goes down as soon as you take it, as with any car, getting used saves you money and most of these cars are hardly driven anyway. Correct me if wrong.

Is there anything NOT covered by warranty? Can I extend the warranty when I purchase it or does that only apply to NEW cars, or neither?

What is the 'lift' system like, how is it activated, etc? Do you have to stop the car, lift it, then go over the bump? 06' owners apply only I guess.

Do you take yours to Jiffy Lube or whatever similar establishment you have near you to get the oil changed or back to the dealership?

Do you let valet park it or do you park it yourself? Do you get a little 'extra' attention from Police? If I drove it all day how quickly would the gas go, I mean I know it depends on how fast and hard I drive it or how slow, but typically what is your experience? I'm sure this thing takes AT LEAST 'super' how much does it cost you on average to fill the tank?

Reversing and changing lanes, any issues with this? Also, I've never owned a paddle shifter car, for those who know, how does shifting compare to a manual transmission?

Do not take it to Jiffy Lube, all of the mistakes they normally make would be compounded by the complexity and cost of the car. Yes, you can valet park your car if you feel comfortable letting someone else drive it (I do valet work in my spare time and I have driven Ferraris, but I personally would not valet my car). Yes, almost any remotely high end or performance oriented car is going to use premium gasoline. If you want to calculate gas usage, figure out the distance of your daily commute and then figure it out using the gas mileage ratings. Expect less miles per gallon if you open it up at every chance. I don't own a Gallardo, so I can't answer the more model specific questions.

Why cant people just let questions be asked? Some people's attitudes stink! I'll purchasing a Diablo soon enough and I have asked about the cost of running it and yes this included gas/petrol and all that caper.

Look at Bensin's first line, that should tell you enough about the image some posters create due to their cockiness etc. Cant even ask a question without been shot down.

Anyway Bensin, cant help you much but state the obvious. There is always room for some negotiation if you play you're tactics right but I would say this could really depend on how well established the dealership is and where they are. I personally wouldnt buy a new car unless i had silly amounts of money in the bank as i think you could pretty much find any spec you wished for out there in the used car market and as you said, the losses after initial 1st purchase can be substantial. No help at all but hey, at least that poster in no.2 knows he's a DILDO!

Not 'concerned' with the cost of an oil change and I'm only curious about the cost of gas, I've never owned an exotic before. Love the cars, don't know anything technical about them, this IS a forum for on-topic threads right? Should I post somewhere else about Lamborghinis? Just calm down. As my original posting said, some are just so I know what to expect. How rude.

By the way, yes sir, mommy knows I'm on the Internet machine she's buying the Lamborgynee car for me. She's going to take me to McDonalds to get happy meals in it!

Exotic car dealers aren't much different than other dealers, they will mark the car up for what they think/hope they can get. That isn't the same thing as "market". Do your research and figure out where the market is; but recognize that dealer prices are slightly higher than private-party prices. This is justified by the idea of "building a relationship" with the dealer and that the dealer will/should have filtered out the worst kinds of cars and problems for you (that doesn't mean the car will be perfect). Make a fair offer and stick within the "market" range for dealer cars when negotiating and you should be OK.

Or talk to Roytoy and he will help you out on the purchase. I have not dealt with him personally but there are several other members here who have and I will tell you that he knows it all about the G and all other Lambos.

hahahaha love that last line, normally with 'regular' car dealerships what I will do is go to the place where I don't expect to buy from at all and work them down to their best price, then use that price to go to the next dealership and break them down lower, and then if there is a third or fourth, hit those places and get it even lower than that... However, considering the 'clientele' and their resources in the exotic market, the dealership might not care to haggle. Then again, like you said anything is possible, and that leaves me confused.

GSX, question for ya, this is general, but still related some how I suppose, what is 'etiquette' for parking the car yourself... do you leave tip, do you not, etc...?

As far as gas is concerned I would think (I do not own a G 'yet') 8-10 MPG depending on how much you push it; and probably much higher on the highway at 'normal' cruising speeds...

Actually you just gave me another question, I was going to answer by saying that I'll probably be heading to Lamborghini of Bergen, do 'they' (Dealerships in general) allow you to test drive these beasts? I don't know if asking that is 'bad' but I have no clue as I've never been to a dealership much less going in to buy / test drive. Nice as they are, gotta' drive one before plunking down all that money.

If the car is new or consigned, it's most likely they won't want you to drive it until there is a deal. The close will be contingent on your "acceptance" drive. If it's a dealer owned used car, then a few miles will probably be allowed if they believe you're serious.

Henry, i beg to differ...I was recently at Lambo of Dallas, i was going to buy to black 6.0 diablo. They were absolutely great at the dealership, I drove the 6.0, I then saw a 512TR in showroom on consignment they let me drive that also. They had no hesitation letting me drive any car i wanted in the showroom, maybe it does vary from dealer to dealer, but these guys know how to run a dealership. I would suggest to you visiting them as they always have a bountiful selection of F-cars as well as the full line up of Lambos ask for Scott, he is great. Oh yea....i bought the TR!

Image is everything when asking to test drive an exotic. If you look like a college kid you have zero chance unless you can prove you have the money. If a man in his early fifties drives up in a Benz, is wearing a navy blue suit w/ maroon tie, and is sporting a Rolex he can probably test drive anything even if he has a negative net worth.

probably true, but if your a saleman that relies on that - your going to miss some good sales. i drive a 98 expedition w 125k miles (daily driver) and wear t shirts to work. you wouldn't know i had a dime unless you saw my house and my brokerage statement and i have a rolex ( it's in the safe - haven't touched it in years)

I can add a few answers to the original post.

I have a Gallardo and no one but the authorized Lamborghini dealer will ever touch it. As far as valet..never. If I go somewhere that I know has valet parking and no place in front to park the Lambo,I take my M3. That they can valet.

Gas mileage on the Gallardo has been quite a bit better than I ever thought it would be. My car has the computer and it is assumed to be accurate. On normal freeway driving the Gallardo has done as well as 26mpg.On country roads, just cruising it does around 18mpg. Drive it like it should be driven and it gets 11mpg.

Today with the aid of computers they can run your credit in a minute from your DL that they have to "make a copy of" in the back room. If you look the part they probably do not even ask to see your DL, if you look shacky they run you through the system. If you fail the credit check they will ask you provide proof of assets. Its not a lost sale if you do not have the ability to buy.

Wow, that's actually not that bad at all, for a V10 I thought its mileage would be poor. That's one hell of a 'plus' for me. Thank you for your input.

    Thank you, sir.

Isn't the whole point of my thread due to my never owning a vehicle like this? Does it hurt to ask? I never stated any concern with the 'cost' of an oil change, just where owners get theirs done and was just 'curious' about the cost of gas, not concerned. Maybe I can ask Edmunds about something like that, maybe I should post off topic? What do you want?

You're right, I'm just going to blindly buy something without asking about it or doing any research at all. Good call, Dirk.

Please add to the discussion or leave it alone.

Why do some people persist in thinking that just because somebody is concerned the the cost of servicing, filling the tank, etc, that means that they cannot afford the toy?

If you ask me, wanting to know how many miles per gallon on a car purchase isn't indicative of somebody's power to purchase, but rather his attention to detail.
