How do people really like the car?
Iv'e always been a fan of the NSX since i first saw it back in the early 90's. After going for a ride in one I wouldn't mind checking one out for myself its my favorite honda. Now as for the later body style i don't dig those ones much i still perfer the pop up headlights.
I've got a '91, and I love it. The only time I will part with it is when I buy a Ferrari. Any particular questions?
Great car. The owners I've known have said they are quite reliable. I've driving a few and a few more on the track. Most ergonomic interior, IMO. Would like to find a 97 one day. http://nsxprime.com/
Any car that had Ayrton Senna help develop the handling should be all right in my book. The only thing that looks dated IMO is the back end. But, given its other qualities I'd love to have one.
With an aftermarket exhaust, the sound is great - the engine is very well designed, and really screams at 8,000 RPM. There are plenty of sound clips over on nsxprime if you're interested. The sound definitely does not match that of a Ferrari, but realistically, what does??? I think they are great value for the money, and have really held their value well on the used market. My 91 with 40k miles is worth at least what I paid for it 3 years ago. Obviously, the potiential buyers are not nearly as mileage sensitive as Ferrari buyers, so you can enjoy the car and probably break even when you decide to sell. What's not to like?
That's not even funny. Thread at NSXprime about guys with 150k miles on the car....and I was impressed, then I see the next guy starts a thread about how many guys are at or going for 300k miles LOL Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have never been a huge fan of the looks, but a drive in one about 5 years ago shut me up. Excellent car.
They are very reliable. I had a 94 and never had any issues with it. I will say the stereo is a piece of crap--the amp goes out every few years and you have to have it rebuilt. The car is also very underpowered, but it tracks very well ad the seating position is very comfortable. The leg room is a little cramped for me--I'm 6'3. Every time I moved the seat back, the back would move forward cramping me. I wish they'd redesign the car with more power and more updated looks. They just forgot about the car. It's too bad, really.
I had one for several years and 30k miles. Great driver- very reliable- quick, probably quicker than my 328. I would recommend it.
I've never owned one, but I was interested in buying one when they first came out. I went to the dealer to check one out. All I can say is the build quality was excellent! It appeared no detail was overlooked.
Gordon Murray, designer of McLaren F1 (which is considered one of the SuperCar greats): "In designing the McLaren F1 he drove a Porsche 959, Bugatti EB110, Ferrari F40, Jaguar XJ220 and others. But none satisfied their desire for a usability benchmark -- Offset pedals, high dashboards, unreliable A/C, and too-low roofs were all unacceptable. But the NSX satisfied these conditions for us." "I so loved Honda engines that I personally visited the Tochigi labs twice, and asked them to build a 4.5L V10 or V12 for the F1. But they couldn't be convinced to do it, so the F1 ultimately got a BMW engine." "The aluminum chassis was what make the NSX a Elite car of them all" (at the time) The NSX suspension design was used as study subject for the McLaren F1 road car... See attached pic, he's known to find flaws in every car that he drives and is known to critisize a lot. (source: NSX Prime) Jeremy Clarkson said about the NSX back when 355 came; "This feels so good, I think I'm gonna do another lap." And back in 2005: "It's a shame they are stopping to make this, the NSX... It really is a great car." And he's known to have driven almost all performance cars the last decades... wow! Now that's what I call reliable. I don't any other supercar could rack that many miles up, and keep going!
I have a beautiful 1991 example in red. I love it to death. As much as I love Ferrari, I am very satisfied with this car. It drives and does everything so well and I really appreciate the extra bonus of it being so reliable - peace of mind has it's own rewards. I put on an aftermarket exhaust $995 and it sounds incredible now. Great car!
Owned one for half a decade. Great, great car. Underpowered by today's standards, but just a terrific car. RMX
Phenomenal car. Not overly comfortable on long road trips......but what sports car is? For that matter.....my $40k Infiniti SUV hurt my back on road trips too. So, I guess that criteria doesn't count. About $5k will get you a Comptech Supercharger for that car, which will bring it right up to the power you would expect from a modern sports car.
my partner had 3 of these cars and i never really liked it. at the time i thought it drove like a hi po celica. i later had a 348 spider that i thought it drove the way an exotic sports car should. if it had to be used as a daily driver maybe the nsx. if wanted it as an exotic then need suspension, engine, etc upgrades. esp when compared to current cars. for what that would cost i'd rather have a vette, lotus, etc
Excellent summary. A common opinion of other NSX owners is "when I get the Ferrari, she'll be gone". ( I bet these same words were uttered by most Dino owners years ago ) Somehow they are missing somthing. Like in the lyrics "you dont know what you got till it's gone". The car is just so pure. I will always have an NSX and do indeed have a Ferrari now (Boxer). Best of both worlds ?
All I know is that several ex-NSX owners miss their cars so much that they do comebacks a few years later with newer NSX's and with plans to keep them forever. Bottomline: Not a bad car.
I owned a 92 for 6 years before she was totaled out at Deal's Gap by an errant motorcyclist. At the time, she was the nicest car I could afford. The funny/great part about it was is that 6 years later, I got a check for the car for $500 less than I paid for it. And factoring in the maintenace, i spent about $500 a year on the car, and $2k of that should not have been my fault, due to a PO lying about a repair. Yes, they are underpowered compared to todays cars. For the money though, I could not have done better, and it gave me my first glimpse at the world of exotics, as when I parked next to z06's and 996 turbos, everyone wanted a glimpse at the rare NSX. And also remember, approx. less than 8k made it to the US it's entire production run, from 1991 to 2005. with it being handbuilt, low production numbers, and performance that at the time was outstanding, lots of folks really do consider it an exotic that ranks up there with the f-cars of the period. Yes, I understand that it is blasphemy on this site, but enthusiasts that appreciate all car makes, and don't have blinders on for certain marques, will certainly understand.
