Since I have a low deep front spoiler, and since I had it off the car for repair and repaint, I decided to add a Tow Hook by welding a quarter inch thick steel plate on part of the front frame just behind the front grill And drill a three-quarter inch hole so the coupling nut can be welded on both the front, and the backside of the steel plate. The reason I wanted to add this Tow Hook is so that in the future it would be so much easier to pull the car from the new tow hook just in case the car needs to be put on a flatbed rather than using the original Tow Hook under the car which The Cable of the tow truck can and will destroy my front spoiler, which Im trying to avoid. In any case, hopefully I won’t need to use this new tow hook ever but I must admit it does look cool. :)

That's the solution the car should have come with from the factory. There's no way the underbody factory hook can be used without sacrificing the front valance. Nice welds!

Be careful if using that to actually pull a car. They are all mostly made by the same company and like to break at the shaft which also makes it a bit though to remove, if you have it in there tight enough. I've seen quite a few Perrin versions break and that is supposed to be a quality company.

This are the premium version and yes I’ve seen those cheap versions that breaks easily and only used for looks. The ZL1 Add Ons that I got is on the pricey side as this is what most racers use.
    Here’s their link: https://zl1addons.com/collections/tow-hooks
    • Premium: Custom forged and powder coated D-ring with clad steel heim-join fastened to our black Chromoly steel shaft with stainless hardware.

    Nice work indeed
I do have 2 commends for your considderation however

I would be a little skeptical on where you put the plate. This area is not realy built to take a strong pull to one side
Pulling straight will probabky be okey but any tow from a more pronouced angle, which may occure, could be scary.
Secondly the use of stainless for the bolt. Stainless is not that strong you know.

    Cool job Mike!

I think my 308 has a factory hook underneath the front right side. However useless if you have the front spoiler installed

Understood however this is on meant for pulling straight forward on to a flat bed tow truck if need only.
Also it is strong enough where I can actually stand on the tow hook without any flex not even 1mm so for my intent of purpose, it’s good enough.

This is exactly why I did this. The cable from the tow truck will hit my spoiler if I use the original tow hook under the car.

Understood. i was just sharing an honest concern. But it does look great indeed and deals with the low spoiler-oem tow hook flaw in the design

I connected the two brackets with an aditional structure to allow for a tow hook connection in the middle going through the spoiler

Nice job but to me an installed tow hook just looks to me like you are expecting to break down.
Not an attractive addition to any car.

None of the factory tow hooks are likely to take much of a pull at an angle without damage to the hook or the car. Many times both. It is not what they were intended for. His mount is considerably stronger than many of the factory mounts.
As for the 5/8 stainless hook itself, again considerably stronger than some of the factory provided hooks.

It is not a tow hook intended to drag a 6000 lb 4x4 out of a mud bog. It is intended to pull a small light car up the ramp of a flat bed tow truck.

    Thanks,

My only concern was that if the hook is there, it might be used differently than intended which can cause serios issues. Comming from a more track orientated background, a towhook will be used from every different angle that allows an official to get a car out of the gravel. On normal roads, I'm pretty sure that in case of an accident where the driver is taken away, a towing company employee will not take much consideration that the hook is only intended to pull the car without an angle. He will probably just hook it on and start pulling.

Ferraris have come with factory installed tow hooks for nearly 50 years. Odd as it may seem many are driven regularly on the track and in that near 50 years it has not been an issue.

Looking at the design of his hook. You can unscrew it and screw it in anytime he wants. So it doesn’t show all the time…. I like that idea….
